Dharmabyte: Beyond Ordinary Mind

From Free Buddhist Audio on Mon, 11 Jan, 2021 - 06:46

Nagapriya talks via Zoom on Buddhist practice as a path towards the transcendence of our egocentric tendencies and motivations, which are the cause of our suffering, and the obstacles to our compassionate response to others. Transcendence is what is beyond our self clinging will, and by connecting with it we can begin to live our lives on the basis of a new logic. One motivated by the aspiration to benefit all beings through everything we do.

The Revolutionary Power of Love

From Glasgow Buddhist Centre on Mon, 11 Jan, 2021 - 00:00
The Karaniya Metta sutta is the focus for Parami's exploration of working with anger, working with polarisation in our relationships and in the world. She uses the lesson of the extremes in this current moment in history as a launching pad for insight into the nature of love. She gave this talk to the gathered Triratna Buddhist Community in Scotland at their New Year gathering online. It has the flavour of a call to practice and to give closer attention to how we relate with those we love and those we find challenging.

What does a Buddhist do about their personality?

From Tiratanaloka on Thu, 7 Jan, 2021 - 20:44

What does a Buddhist should do about their personality? Should they go forth from it altogether in the spirit of ‘no fixed self’? Should they examine and transform their personality? What of our personality remains after years of dedication to the spiritual path? Vajratara gives a personal and reflective talk using her experience of 25 years of Buddhist practice. This talk was given at an ordination training retreat based on Sangharakshita’s talk ‘Taste of Freedom’ and it assumes knowledge of...

Dharmabyte: Mind is Not the Enemy

From Free Buddhist Audio on Thu, 7 Jan, 2021 - 06:00

Nagabodhi explores a common misconception about how we’re supposed to stop all thought in meditation. Thought more generally can be very useful and could even be said to be one of the things that makes us human, but it becomes a problem when it runs away with itself and we start living in a ‘secondary reality’ most of the time.

From the talk entitled Direct Experience, part of the series The Two Arrows: Dukkha to Insight given...
