The Taste of Freedom | Q and A

From Padmaloka Retreat Centre on Sun, 15 Jan, 2023 - 00:00
In this questions and answers session given at the Men's Great Gathering at Padmaloka, Padmavajra explores themes from the talk he gave the previous day. In his talk, Padmavajra explores the Buddha's proclamation that just as the great and mighty ocean has the taste of salt, the Buddha's Dhamma has the taste of freedom. By freedom, the Buddha meant complete liberation from the wheel of life, but he also indicated the importance of social freedom. In his talk Padmavajra begins with a quotation from the great Indian Dalit leader, Dr B R Ambedkar on the occasion of the great mass conversion to Buddhism of hundreds and thousands of Dalits. The talk focuses on the practices that lead to liberation, with a presentation of the Buddha's great teaching of the five teachings that lead to the maturing of the liberation of the heart.

Vajrasuri's Health

From Order Connection on Thu, 12 Jan, 2023 - 17:48

Dear fellow Dharmafarers,

I’m sitting with Vajrasuri as she enters her last phase of living. A few days ago she stopped eating and then drinking. Tonight we (Stephanie, my sister, Satyagandhi and Viryadana) came to be with her as her breathing was deteriorating. She has been calm and breathing normally since we have been here.

Green Tara was introduced to Vajrasuri by Urygen Sangharakshita. In the last few years Tara has become dominant again.

May...

Last year Dharmavajri carefully thought through the pros and cons of having a complex...

The Enlightened Response to Suffering

From London Buddhist Centre on Wed, 11 Jan, 2023 - 00:00
At the darkest time of the year, time seems to slow down and our mind turns naturally towards what is most important in life. We often numb this instinct with the same old superficial pleasures, but they’re never enough. The Winter Retreat is our main event of the year and the best way to experience the vision of the LBC. Enjoy the Dharma talks from this Winter Retreat on the topic of the Five Buddha Mandala.
