Feel the Fear and do it Anyway (FBA Podcast)

From Free Buddhist Audio on Sat, 29 Mar, 2025 - 10:00

Punyamala explores how we can bring our mindfulness to the crucial juncture in our experience, the gap between feeling and craving. This point - the point of freedom, also sometimes referred to as the battleground of the spiritual life - is where we can start to change the habits that bind us to the Wheel. It’s the point where we can move from the reactive mind to the creative mind, move closer to the Buddha. This talk...

Ready Or Not, One Day We Shall Die

From Sheffield Buddhist Centre on Wed, 26 Mar, 2025 - 00:00
How can we, in our busy, everyday lives, transform our awareness and turn our minds towards awakening? This week Paranita talks about the practice of the 'Four Mind Turning Reflections', the four reminders that work on our minds to turn them towards liberation. We will hear about how to reflect on the preciousness of our human life, the inevitability of death, the truth of karma and the dangers of samsara, to bring about a radical shift in awareness.

Sangharakshita’s much loved commentary on the Satipațțhāna Sutta, a Pāli text from the Majjhima Nikāya in which the Buddha explains the practice of mindfulness, has just been published in a brand-new edition! The material was originally delivered as a seminar at a men’s ordination retreat in Tuscany in 1982 and developed as a book by Dharmacharis Pabodhana and Jinananda published in 2003, it has been thoroughly revised and significantly enlarged for the new Classic Sangharakshita series (of which it is...

No Protection Needed (Dharmabytes Podcast)

From Free Buddhist Audio on Mon, 24 Mar, 2025 - 14:44

Buddhism is sometimes seen as weak or negative. Using examples from the Pali Canon and Mahayana texts, this lecture shows that, on the contrary, heroic and positive qualities are essential in the Buddhist spiritual aspirant’s quest for Enlightenment. Here, Sangharakshita tells the story of Devadatta who was trying to kill the Buddha. Excerpted from the talk The Heroic Ideal in Buddhism given in 1969.
