From Community Highlights on Wed, 30 Jul, 2025 - 16:43

What is the connection between the Cistercian Rievaulx Abbey in North Yorkshire and Sangharakshita’s teachings on Spiritual Friendship?

Paramartha explores this question and more in the twenty fourth video blog from Urgyen House. With extracts from Sangharakshita’s talks and objects in Urgyen House he considers why spiritual friendship is one of the six emphases of the Triratna Buddhist Community.

The programme is 18 minutes long and English subtitles are available.

As Vast As the Sky, As Fine As Grains of Flour.

From Sheffield Buddhist Centre on Wed, 30 Jul, 2025 - 00:00
Aryadasa introduces the new Sangha night theme 'Sex, Drugs and Sausage Rolls' with an ambitious talk covering vast space, limitless time and the ethical implications of sausage rolls. Its pokey content means the recording might not make it to YouTube... so be there on the night! How should we behave? What is ‘Right’ and ‘Wrong’? And does that even matter anyway? In the 1960s, Sangharakshita and other early Western Buddhists asked questions like these. They critiqued society’s views about ‘good’ and ‘bad’ behaviour in the light of The Buddha’s teachings on ethics and karma from 2,500 years earlier in ancient India. However, the world we live in now is very different again from when Sangharakshita gave his lectures on ethics. So what are the current ethical issues that we need to think about as practicing Buddhists in our time, in our society?

Resignation of Dhammachari Anagarika Silarasmi

From Order Connection on Tue, 29 Jul, 2025 - 17:47

I regret to announce the resignation from the Order of Dhammachari Anagarika Silarasmi, from Thane, Maharastra, India. He was ordained by me, both privately and publicly, in July 1999.

He recently received ordination as a sramanera according to the Theravada lineage. After informing me and others of this, he came to realise that this was incompatible with membership of the Order and offered his resignation, which I have accepted. Indeed, in taking that sramanera ordination, he had...
