Review: The Heart’s Awakening: 108 Steps to a Life of Love by Bodhipaksa

From Windhorse Publications on Wed, 5 Nov, 2025 - 09:44

To assist us as we journey through The Heart’s Awakening we have four places of rest, four opportunities to take a step back and reflect, in turn, on kindness, compassion, joy, and equanimity. To help us reflect, Bodhipaksa – founder of Wildmind (an online meditation resource), publisher of guided meditations, and provider of online instruction – provides us with 108 points to ponder – the same number of beads as on a mala – 27 for each place of reflection, and...

The Space Where Freedom Lives

From Sheffield Buddhist Centre on Wed, 5 Nov, 2025 - 00:00
At Tuesday's Sangha Night, we'll be hearing from Paranita about 'The Space Where Freedom Lives'. We'll visit the final outer rim of the wheel, the chain of conditions that is our own life, and find the doorway from which we can make our Great Escape from the sufferings of samsara. We'll hear how it is in our everyday lives to practice in the famous gap, with examples and practices that can lead us to a greater sense of agency, confidence, freedom and ease. During this theme we'll be looking at The Wheel of Life, a living symbol that encompasses the entirety of existence. We'll learn how to escape from the prison and sufferings of Samsara, towards ever increasing positive and expansive states of being, towards the ultimate goal of Awakening. We'll be taking a contemporary look at this ancient symbol, visiting it's realms and their beings from the depths of the hell realm to the heights of the heavenly abodes, and asking what do these realms look like in our modern society and world? Expect support for home practice, practical ideas of how to bring these traditional teachings into your everyday life, and reflections on how to make your Great Escape!

Adventures of a 'young' Buddhist Working In India

From Birmingham Buddhist Centre on Tue, 4 Nov, 2025 - 00:00
As a young Mitra I was asked a question which would change the course of my life; 'would I come and work for Subhuti as his PA?' In that moment I saw the next few years flash before my eyes; sickness, stress, overwhelm - but I knew if I said no I'd spend the rest of my life wondering what could have happened. I did say yes and I did get stressed, overwhelmed and really quite sick - but the adventure, the opportunity to live and work alongside our friends in India was totally worth it.

Help! I'd like to download the Year 2 audiobook but can't

From Mitra Study Leaders on Sat, 1 Nov, 2025 - 18:18

Hello all

I am having difficulty with downloading the audiobook for year 2, which I find useful for self and other. It may be me, or my system, but it may be a wider problem. Any thoughts?

If anyone has it downloaded and is willing to share it with me, via Gdrive perhaps, I’d be really grateful. We’re about to start and I want to encourage the group to listen to the audiobook if they find that helpful

I’m using this...

From Free Buddhist Audio on Sat, 1 Nov, 2025 - 10:00

Suryagupta explores the story of Padmasambhava, the great tantric master, who was invited to Tibet when Buddhism could not take root through reason and philosophy alone. She describes how Padmasambhava confronted and transformed the unseen forces of Maras, demons, and gods, turning their energies towards the Dharma rather than away from it. The talk urges us to face our own inner and collective forces with courage, love, ritual, and devotion, calling on Padmasambhava’s blessing for personal and...
