From Portsmouth Buddhist Center on Sat, 24 Nov, 2012 - 23:25Have you ever wondered what would happen if you meditated for a longer period than what you’re accustomed to? This is a great opportunity to find out! Meditation practice deepens and becomes more pleasurable when given the time and space to do so. We will have three meditation sessions with breaks in between, as well as a discussion session to explore issues in meditation.

The full moon in November marks what is known as Sangha day on the Buddhist calendar. This is a time to rejoice in collective practice, and to remember the great spiritual heroes of the past.

Sangharakshita’s Diary, November 2012

From Triratna News on Sat, 24 Nov, 2012 - 07:05Vidyaruchi writes with his regular roundup of Sangharakshita’s news for the past month, saying - “At the end of October, I returned to Bhante’s service after a six-week break, during which time Singhamanas, who will succeed me permanently in March, stepped into the secretarial saddle. The changeover went smoothly, and I am hopeful that in Singhamanas Bhante has found a secretary who will have most of my virtues and few of my failings. (Fortunately, Bhante has never had cause to...

The Four Right Efforts

From Dharma Tape History Detectives on Sat, 24 Nov, 2012 - 03:17I have digitized another talk, this one a multi-speaker presentation from a February, 1985 Women’s Order Member event on the Four Right Efforts. The speakers are Sridevi, Vimala, Sanghadevi and Ashokashri.

I felt the audio quality was quite poor even after my attempts to clean it up, so I consulted a local expert. OK, I consulted the closest person, who happens to know nothing about audio or Buddhism. He said, “I can’t understand that at all.”

The Death of God, and the Hell of Atheism - Talk Two

From London Buddhist Centre on Sat, 24 Nov, 2012 - 00:00
Subhuti continues his exploration of the extremes of eternalism and nihilism, considering the Buddha's observation of how such views come about as ideas, and how such ideas bring about dukkha. Subhuti emphasizes the Buddhas fundamental wisdom of the Middle Way between such extremes, whilst also considering the particularities of the contemporary Western Buddhist world and threats to the Buddha-Dharma. Notably, he draws a vital distinction between therapy and culture.
