Does Dependent Arising Ever Cease?

From Shabda Articles on Tue, 8 Mar, 2016 - 10:35

This short article (2,500 words) is a response to Satyadhana’s article in October 2015 Shabda, ‘Cessation and Conditionality’, specifically to Satyadhana’s claim that dependent arising ceases with insight, and that it is a conceptual overlay or an illusion. While thoroughly appreciating the insights and realisations that Satyadhana shares, I draw attention to difficulties of reconciling what he writes about dependent arising with the Buddha’s teaching as recorded in the Pāli canon. I also summarise Nāgārjuna on dependent arising to present a contrast...

Vajragupta - Reflecting On Spiritual Death

From Croydon Buddhist Centre on Fri, 4 Mar, 2016 - 00:00
In this talk Vajragupta continues our exploration of The Journey and The guide. Vajragupta uses reflections and stories to help us contact our sense of self and to explore how this sense feels different in different situations. He also introduces the five Niyamas. We see how unskilful actions leave our sense of self more rigid and isolated, and how skilful actions allow the sense of self to be more fluid and connected. This talk was given at Croydon Buddhist Centre on 27th February 2016 as part of the regular Saturday Morning Sangha Class.

Hidden Gems Office Appeal

From Croydon Buddhist Centre on Mon, 29 Feb, 2016 - 21:33

Hidden Gems Needs You!
The heart of the Hidden Gems charity shop project is in our basement office, where we share tears, tea and our inspiration regularly. But it’s in a bit of a state. There’s holes in the ceiling, spaghetti like wiring and a tatty carpet. We’d love to make this a space of beauty.

What made the project possible two years ago, when we transformed Oasis into a Charity shop, was all the generous help...
