The winter 2017 chairs meeting comes to an end

From European Chairs' Assembly on Thu, 12 Jan, 2017 - 10:59

We have come to the end of the winter 2017 European Chairs Assembly meeting at Adhisthana.  As I write the chairs are packing their bags and getting ready to go - and I am sure they will be taking their recharged energy, friendship and inspiration back out into the world!  It has been another rich, full week, ending last night with a concluding ritual in the shrine room where we recited the Transference and Merit verse in different languages. Here,...

The Endless Knot

From London Buddhist Centre on Thu, 12 Jan, 2017 - 10:36

2016 was a year of political upheaval in the UK, the USA and beyond. Are things as bad as we think? Should Buddhists get tangled up in it? Vishvapani investigates

Politics matters. I inherited this belief from my father who discovered it one November evening in 1938 when he made his way home from school in Berlin and saw the synagogue at the end of his street in flames while Nazi Brownshirts cheered and firemen stood and...

Womens’ Community Opportunity near the Birmingham Buddhist Centre

This is an exciting and unusual opportunity for women who are dedicated to their practice of the dharma, and who are interested in living in a Buddhist community to take this deeper in a more intense, collective context.

We are two GFR mitras, both in our mid-twenties and are looking to have conversations with other mitras, order members, and friends that are interested in community living. We are looking to set up a small community near the...

How to Live and How to Die

From Croydon Buddhist Centre on Wed, 11 Jan, 2017 - 00:00
In this talk Vijayasri continues a short series of talks, on themes arising from Sangharakshita's lecture on World Peace and Nuclear War, by exploring what to do with our lives and how to face death. We look at how suffering arises from clinging to self identity and consider different ways of seeing through this. Vijayasri then moves on to discuss how fear of death affects us and how letting go of this fear gives a huge sense of relief. Amarapuspa leads a reflection on Impermanence and the session closes with verses from Subhuti's refuge puja and the Prajnaparamita mantra. This talk was given at the Croydon Buddhist Centre in December 2016 as part of our regular Saturday morning sangha class.
