European Buddhists gather at Adhisthana

By Munisha on Sat, 20 Oct, 2018 - 21:51

The last weekend in September saw the annual gathering of the European Buddhist Union (EBU), this year hosted by Triratna at Adhisthana, followed as always by the annual meeting of the Buddhist Teachers in Europe (BTE).

For the EBU meeting, around 30 people from national Buddhist unions and individual Buddhist traditions across Europe, and including some young Buddhist guests, spent three days together, concentrating on two topics: 1) Young Buddhists and 2) preventing abuse in...

European Buddhist Union weekend at Adhisthana

By Munisha on Sat, 20 Oct, 2018 - 18:58

The last weekend in September saw the annual gathering of the European Buddhist Union (EBU), this year hosted by Triratna at Adhisthana. This was followed as always by the annual meeting of the group, Buddhist Teachers in Europe (BTE). Both were enormously successful meetings in terms of the working atmosphere and topics, and people’s enjoyment of each other and their surroundings. (I attend both each year, in my capacity as Triratna’s Liaison officer, looking after...

The first knock

By Prajnaketu on Mon, 30 Jul, 2018 - 15:31

I was already late. And it was hot. Very hot. Indian hot. The adrenaline had taken me so far but now my legs were palpably wobbling as I approached the last bend before my destination. The hasty bowl of muesli rumbled restlesslessly in my stomach, rising and falling as the urge to vomit repeatedly came and subsided… Hold it together man…

I’ve been here before - exams, big talks, lesson observations when I was a trainee teacher - and deep down I know...

A doorstep into the unknown...

By Prajnaketu on Wed, 25 Jul, 2018 - 14:28

Sooo… I’ve just started a six-week fundraising appeal in London with these wonderful people (Mike, Declan, Chris, Ramesh Babar, Vajragupta, and Kusaladevi Spence)! We’re going to be raising money for an amazing charity called Karuna which helps to transform the lives of individuals and communities affected by the tyrannical caste system in India and Nepal.

We’ve all now arrived and are settling into community we’ll be living in together. For most of us, this is the first time we’ve done anything like this...

European Buddhist Union weekend 2017

By Munisha on Tue, 17 Oct, 2017 - 11:14

As the ‘Liaison Officer’ for Triratna’s European Chairs’ Assembly, I’m the person who looks after Triratna’s co-operation with other Buddhist traditions on matters of common interest. As part of this work, each September I attend the AGM weekend of the European Buddhist Union  (EBU) and the meeting of the Buddhist Teachers in Europe. This year both took place at the Benchen Katsang Retreat Centre just west of Warsaw, Poland. Next year will see them...

A lotus with seventy petals – a symbol for one European young Buddhist sangha

by Marieke

From Friday the 2nd, until Sunday the 4th of June, the first Mainland Europe Young Buddhist Convention was held in Berlin. Seventy young Buddhists from ten European countries came together to explore the theme ‘one sangha’. How can young Buddhists from different countries become one sangha? The relationship between unique individuals in all their diversity vs. their commonalities and shared values, was the central topic of the weekend.

Return of the Bodhisattva

By mokshini on Wed, 5 Jul, 2017 - 08:09

The world needs us to think big. The Bodhisattva Ideal is the biggest myth possible - Awakening for the sake of all sentient beings - and for that reason it’s perhaps easy to lose sight of it. But humanity is increasingly reaching out for a myth of this kind, and modern Buddhism is better able to articulate its significance than ever, so what needs to happen next?

Prajnaketu will share more of his thoughts on the above topic at the International Gathering...
