An Invitation from Patience to Her Mitra Ceremony

By Candradasa on Wed, 20 Jul, 2016 - 23:38

You are cordially invited to Patience’s Mitra Ceremony (July 24th, 10am-12pm)…
Our friend Patience has decided to become a Mitra (= friend) in our community - and she’d love you to come celebrate with her! So much so, she made a series of art pieces to invite you!

It’s a great occasion to celebrate in the life of our community, and to witness someone’s heartfelt decision to take a step of genuine commitment on her spiritual path. Let’s give...

Community Morning - Soaring, Resonating

By Candradasa on Thu, 30 Jun, 2016 - 20:38

This week we’ll be continuing our exploration of the role of imagination in Dharma practice - using the Brahma Viharas series of meditations as a basis for looking at how we respond to whatever arises via the mind and the five senses through the course of our days.

Mudita (‘sympathetic joy’) is an attitude to others we can cultivate anytime. The quality we’re looking for can be rendered as a “joyful resonance”. The image is of the lark ascending, the...

Community Morning - Compassion In Tough Times

By Candradasa on Fri, 24 Jun, 2016 - 14:24

Isn’t the world a complicated place? It’s not always easy to know what to do about it. As we continue our series looking at imagination as a key aspect of practice, let’s get together this Sunday morning and spend some time in each other’s good company exploring compassion as a profound act of creativity. We’ll practice the karuna bhavana and look at how positive empathy can change both our own experience and the world around us.

Stupa Update: Lion Throne Completed

By viriyalila on Thu, 24 Jul, 2014 - 00:01The Dhardo Rinpoche stupa at Aryaloka is rapidly taking shape. The base, or “lion throne” portion of the stupa was completed on Monday. Into it we placed a large sealed urn or vase, with contents representing things of samsara:

An old police service revolver and ammunition

A knife

Some coral

Gold chains

Silver and amber items

Dirt from the homes of wealthy people

Fur from horses and alpaca

A...

How will a Stupa Impact Aryaloka?

By viriyalila on Sat, 24 May, 2014 - 03:44

Repost from 16/05/2014

In many of her talks about the Aryaloka stupa project, Viriyagita, has shared a video about the building and dedication of the stupa at the New Zealand retreat center, Sudarshanaloka, I think this must be the most dramatically situated of the four existing Dhardo Rinpoche stupas at Triratna centers around the world, and I found the video to be quite inspiring. However, it left me curious about how the building of a stupa...

Join the regional sangha for a scrumptious fundraising dinner at Aryaloka Buddhist Center on April 18th at 6:00 p.m. The menu includes a hearty soup to warm the winter chill, lovingly-created bread, salad, and cake for dessert to add a touch of sweetness. All this in addition to joyful sangha friends to break bread with!

Pioneering the Stupa Project

By viriyalila on Sat, 24 May, 2014 - 03:13Repost from 24/03/2014

On March 19th, Viriyagita, Shantikirika and Portsmouth NH mitra Bettye Pruitt joined the sangha of Nagaloka in Portland, ME, to share information about the project to build a stupa dedicated to Dhardo Rimpoche at Aryaloka in Newmarket, NH. The main theme of Viriyagita’s presentation was the importance of Dhardo Rimpoche to the Triratna community. She pointed out that there are currently four Triratna stupas containing ashes of the late Dhardo: at...

A Stupa Emerges

By viriyalila on Sat, 24 May, 2014 - 03:09Posted by Viriyalila for The Stupa Project Kula…20/03/2014
I’ve been reflecting quite a bit on the stupa visualization practice since visiting with my preceptor, Karunadevi, in San Francisco last month. I remember how she taught the practice, and how fascinated I was to be engaging in such primal, simple act conjuring the elements in vibrant, colorful forms. I felt connected to the whole universe, and beyond, in ways that I have never experienced before. So grounding, and yet so expansive.

Dhardo's Stupa is Coming! An Interview with Viriyagita

By viriyalila on Sat, 24 May, 2014 - 02:28Repost dated 19/02/2014

Viriyalila had the opportunity to meet with Viriyagita, one of the members of the Stupa Kula - the team of folks working together to bring this project into fruition. They spent some time talking about various elements of The Stupa Project which is now most definitely happening. The ground has been blessed, a contract with the builder has been made, and 1/3 of the funds have been raised. Supporters may contribute to the building of the...
