We very happy to announce the first Public Ordinations on Saturday, 24th April 2021, of the Joint Online Mainland European Ordination Retreat.

Karin van Kesteren from Diemen, The Netherlands, becomes Abhayanetri (long final ‘i’) a Sanskrit name meaning ‘she who leads from fearlessness’.

Anna van den Heuvel from Arnhem, The Netherlands, becomes Hrdayamaitri (dot under the first ‘r’, long final ‘i’) a Sanskrit name meaning ‘she whose friendship is from the heart’.

25 years ago, on Sangha Day, November 1995, the Amsterdam Buddhist Centre officially opened its doors - the first long-term Triratna centre in the Lowlands.

Sandra becomes Maitrivirya (long second and third ‘i’, long final ‘a’) a Sanskrit name meaning ‘she who has the energy of love’

Last week the new retreat centre in the north of the Netherlands was informally opened: the Boeddhawierde. A mosaic made by a friend of the local sangha, Lucia Keidel, was unveiled during a ceremony - which marks a significant step in the further development of Triratna in the Netherlands.

‘Wierde’ refers to a mound that the local ancestors built in the muddy fields, to keep their feet dry and bury their dead. Later when the dykes were build, they became sacred spots and churches were typically built on...
