Bonjour,

A Nagpur, le 14 Octobre 1956, il y a 60 ans, le Dr. Ambedkar, juste après s’être lui-même convertit au bouddhisme après une vie passée en tant qu‘ “intouchable” hindouiste, a convertit un demi million d’intouchables au bouddhisme. Depuis, ils sont quelques millions à s’être convertis.

A Paris, 60 ans plus tard, nous avons grignotés quelques spécialités indiennes à la sauce coco très piquante, bu du chaï, au son de la flûte indienne, avant de nous laisser emporter par les Refuges et Préceptes au rythme indien,...

On this day 60 years ago – 14th October 1956 - the great Indian social reformer Dr BR Ambedkar converted to Buddhism. 

Sangharakshita worked with Dr Ambedkar’s followers for many years. So to mark this very significant anniversary, The Buddhist Centre Online launches today a new multimedia space “Dr Ambedkar and Sangharakshita: Bringing Buddhism back to India”.

The first published volume of The Complete Works of Sangharakshita, Volume 9: Dr Ambedkar and the Revival of Buddhism I, has been launched. This volume has been released in time for celebrations around Friday 14th October, 2016, which marks the 60th anniversary of the conversion of Dr Ambedkar to Buddhism.

“In December 1981, Bhante Sangharakshita, founder and teacher of the Triratna Buddhist Community, flew to India and began a lecture tour which lasted nearly three months.”

October this year sees the 60th anniversary of the first mass conversion to Buddhism of people then known as ‘Untouchables’, in Nagpur, India, which took place on 14th October 1956, led by Dr BR Ambedkar.

In celebration, the International Network of Engaged Buddhists and Triratna’s Indian retreat centre Nagaloka are holding a weekend conference, ‘Social engagement and liberation’, 11th-14th October.
