We’re very pleased to offer a special screening of “Planetary” on June 13th at Sheffield Buddhist Centre, courtesy of the director, Steve Kennedy. The film is concurrently being shown at Sheffield Doc Fest (June 5-10).

PLANETARY is a provocative and breathtaking wakeup call – a cinematic journey that explores our cosmic origins and our future as a species. It is a poetic and humbling reminder that now is the time to shift our perspective, to reconsider our relationship with ourselves, with each other and with...

Love where you live: photos from the grand Dharma litter pick

By Christine on Tue, 26 May, 2015 - 14:17

After a dedication ritual at the Buddhist Centre, we strolled down to Ponderosa Park and spent 2 hours collecting litter from the wooded section of the park, which includes the road-way. Once we’d finished, we found a sweet spot for the rupa, transferred our merits, and left the place nicer than when we’d found it.

BAM! at Sheffield Buddhist Centre

By Christine on Thu, 21 May, 2015 - 09:57

The Sheffield Buddhist Centre has been building up towards BAM for the last month and a bit. In addition to the ongoing sangha night theme, “Transforming Self and the World”, sangha members have been invited on a Bluebell Yatra (mindfulness in Nature) and a half-day litter-picking event at a local park (“Love Where You Live”).

BAM will officially launch on May 31st with a day retreat titled, “Stillness, Simplicity and Contentment”. Together in sangha, we’ll motivate our potential to tread more lightly on...

Stillness, Simplicity and Contentment: Introducing Buddhist Action Month 2015

Together in sangha, we’ll motivate our potential to tread more lightly on the Earth; to practice the third precept with joy; to delight in trying out new approaches.

“What would the Buddha do?” is explored through inspiring stories from the scriptures. Conversation, meditation and reflection will close off with a ritual. Please bring food for a shared vegan banquet if you can. Led by Suddhacandika and Maitridasa with support from the Karaniya Metta Kula.

Sangha Day rejoicings

Sangha Day rejoicings

By Christine on Sun, 9 Nov, 2014 - 14:01I rejoice with delight in the Karaniya Metta Kula!

Formerly the Buddhism and Ecology group, the Metta Kula is a shelter of friendships, in which sangha members can come together to discuss difficult topics of contemporary politics, socio-economic injustices, and concern for the environment and other beings. For modern Buddhists, tremendous opportunities for growth, altruism and sangha building can be found in responding creatively to the environmental crisis.

As a shelter in which individuals are supported to face...

Inner Work meets Worldly Action > People's Climate March @ 21st Sept 2014

By Christine on Sun, 7 Sep, 2014 - 23:36On September 21st, thousands will take to the streets to motivate the UN Earth Summit (NYC) to take ambitious action on the climate crisis. Anticipated as the biggest unified campaign of our time, Buddhist presence has much to add.

On this day, we’ll engage in rituals of both spiritual and worldly realms. Following a morning of meditation and ritual at the Centre, we’ll join the Sheffield Rivers Rally (organized by Sheffield Climate Alliance) for an afternoon of...
