Support not one, but two forces for goodness in the world!

By vajratara on Thu, 11 Dec, 2014 - 22:35Great news! Shraddhavajri and Vidyadharini from India are coming to Adhisthana in February to attend the women’s five month study course. This is especially significant, not just because they are coming from India, but because they are coming specifically to deepen their understanding of the Dharma and their experience of the international Sangha in order to devote their lives more effectively spread the Dhamma. They have chosen not to get married, which is a very radical step for a woman...

The Women's Ordination Team in India

By vajratara on Sun, 17 Aug, 2014 - 21:20Here’s a picture of our other half - the Women’s Ordination Team in India and their support taken at a recent Ordination Team meeting in Bhaja. They do an amazing job helping support women who are training for Ordination, sometimes in very demanding circumstances. Here is a bit about them: There are at present only 3 full-time workers in the team: Tarahridaya and Vijaya, as well as Karunamaya who is not in the picture. There is also Jnanasuri who does...

Spread Buddhism. Serve Mankind.

By vajratara on Mon, 7 Apr, 2014 - 19:04‘Time has come, what is wanted is will. If the countries which are Buddhist can develop the will to spread Buddhism the task of spreading Buddhism will not be difficult. They must realize that the duty of a Buddhist is not merely to be a good Buddhist, his duty is to spread Buddhism. They must believe that to spread Buddhism is to serve mankind.’

By vajratara on Mon, 7 Apr, 2014 - 18:44

Trustee's Meeting for the IDT

By vajratara on Mon, 7 Apr, 2014 - 18:44We have just had a fantastic trustee’s meeting. Headlines:
☞ Subhuti has recently returned from a visit to India where he has been deepening Dhamma practice in the Order thereby broadening out the base from which more Order support can be given to more mitras.
☞ The Ordination teams in India have been busy running regular events where the teams support both local and outlying mitras - sometimes journeying great distances to do so - as well as ongoing mitra...

Well done Sanghamani!

Well done Sanghamani!

By vajratara on Sat, 29 Mar, 2014 - 17:05Big Saddhu to Sanghamani who has raised an extra £8,500 in annual income for IDT through her three month telephone upgrade campaign. About 100 donors increased their monthly gift - half of all those she asked. That generosity will go a long way in helping the Dhamma revolution in India.

Notes from an Appealing Buddhist

By Shakyapada on Tue, 28 May, 2013 - 22:51Day 2: Settling in and setting out…

Seven strangers coming together on a Saturday afternoon: Dantacitta, Prakashaka, Sanghamani, Amitasuri, Jamie, Sally and myself. Only Dantacitta and Prakashika, (both from Australia), knew each other well.

It could have been a recipe for chaos: six of the seven had never lived in a Buddhist community or done a Karuna Appeal before. Add in two days of intensive reporting-in and workshopping, then complicate further with meals to cook, jobs to...

Notes from an Appealing Buddhist

By Shakyapada on Sat, 25 May, 2013 - 11:41Or life on a Karuna fundraising appeal

Ready, set, go…
So here I am sitting on the 10.58 from York, heading for Kings Cross and, for once, I have no expectations about where I’m going or what it’s going to be like. I’m going to be staying in Bethnal Green, at The London Buddhist Centre, for 6 weeks as part of a small team, knocking on suburban doors, introducing people to the work of the Karuna Trust and,...
