Learning from the FPMT in the case of Dagri Rinpoche

By ECA Safeguarding on Thu, 17 Dec, 2020 - 16:50

Post updated 11th February 2021; see final paragraph.

Whenever such reports are published, the ECA’s Safeguarding team looks carefully to see what we in Triratna can learn from others’ experience. In the spirit of...

NB: ‘Child sexual abuse’ includes the ‘non-contact’ offences of viewing, possessing or producing indecent images of children.

Whenever such reports are published,  we at the ECA’s Safeguarding team look carefully to see what we can learn. We’ll list...

European Buddhist Union condemns abuse by Buddhist teachers

By Munisha on Thu, 10 Dec, 2020 - 09:21

Prompted by recent allegations of sexual misconduct on the part of Tibetan teacher Dagri Rinpoche, the European Buddhist Union has published this statement on misconduct by Buddhist teachers.

Triratna has been a very active member of the EBU for many years, sending a series of Liaison officers to its meetings, of which I am the latest. As part of EBU discussions of misconduct in several Buddhist organisations I have talked very openly about the controversial aspects of Triratna’s past. I...

New Charity governance code: England and Wales

By ECA Safeguarding on Tue, 8 Dec, 2020 - 14:08

A new, refreshed Charity Governance Code launched today in England and Wales.

The Code was first published in 2017. It is not legally binding, but aims to express ‘best practice’ core principles and governance goals for charity trustees, and has been widely adopted across the sector, with the backing of the Charity Commission for England and Wales. The Code is reviewed every three years.

With regard to Safeguarding, the Code recommends

3.7 Ensuring the right to be safe

  • Trustees understand their safeguarding responsibilities and meet the legal minimum

October saw the publication of a 154-page report on failures to prevent child sexual abuse in the Anglican Church in England and Wales, which the Church itself has described as ‘shocking’.

NB: ‘Child sexual abuse’ includes the ‘non-contact’ offences of viewing, possessing or producing indecent images of children.

Whenever such reports are published, the ECA’s Safeguarding team look carefully to see what we can learn. The report is is extremely long and detailed so we’ll list below some points...

Dharmabyte: The Three Robes of Padmasambhava

By Sadayasihi on Mon, 26 Oct, 2020 - 05:09

Subhadramati, with characteristic inspiration, shares a memory of Sangharakshita’s last public appearance before his death, and unfolds the significance this image for us as his disciples. She brings this into relationship with our practice of ethics, articulated through the three robes of Padmasambhava.

From the talk The Archetypal Guru and the Ten Precepts given in the context of the 2020 retreat for women private preceptors at Adhisthana, 2020.
