Dharmabyte: Hear the Call to Give

By Sadayasihi on Mon, 23 Jul, 2018 - 11:47

In this Dharmabyte podcast, ‘Hear the Call to Give’, Vidyamala reminds us of the Buddha’s words that at the very least we can give. Our Bodhisattva journey, giving is the first paramita, the first training, because it is the complete opposite of grasping. Anyone can have a moment of open-handedness!

Excerpt from the talk ‘From Pinball Machine to River’, a talk given on the Manchester Buddhist Centre Sangha Retreat at Adhisthana on 21 May 2016.

FutureDharma Major Grant Round Open

By Viryanaga on Tue, 29 May, 2018 - 15:48

FutureDharma Fund’s Major Project round for funding in 2019 is now open for applications. Major projects are those seeking more than £3,000 overall, which can include large multi-year projects.

Although demand usually always outstrip our capacity to provide funding, inviting a broad range of applications each year, particularly internationally, helps to ensure that we support the most effective projects which offer the best value for the funding available.

Major projects funded in 2018 include:

FutureDharma Fund supports ongoing appeal for Venezeula crisis

By Aryanisha on Mon, 7 Aug, 2017 - 17:23

Thanks to the generosity of the European Chairs Assembly, in just a few minutes FutureDharma Fund raised £5000 in pledges to help sangha members in Venezuela, whose country is in crisis.

Chairs from Triratna Buddhist Centres across Europe and representatives from major Triratna projects had gathered together at Vajrasana for a 10-day meeting. They were joined by several other Chairs from around the world, including Vajranatha. 2015 breaks Karuna's fundraising records

By Munisha on Wed, 10 Feb, 2016 - 12:21

Thanks to its “amazing” Buddhist volunteer fundraisers, in 2015 Triratna’s Karuna Trust had the best fundraising year in its 35-year history.

Karuna’s head of fundraising, Steven Murdoch, writes: “In a year when the UK charity sector was widely criticised for some dubious fundraising practices, Karuna had its most successful fundraising season ever. This means we are on course to send over £1M to our project partners working with persecuted dalit and tribal communities in India and Nepal.”

ECA Winter 2016 - Podcast No.3: Amalavajra on 'Awakening Money'

By mokshini on Thu, 7 Jan, 2016 - 19:19

A wee report from day 3 of the 2016 Triratna European Chairs Assembly on Amalavajra’s ‘Money Awakening’ workshop.

As Amalavajra points out, the Chair of a Triratna Buddhist Centre is likely to be one of the more influential people in their situation - so their views on money matter.

We look at the 8 money archetypes, and the effect of giving more and more from a position of genuine generosity as we move towards a ‘gift’ economy within Triratna - a more appropriate term,...

Celebrating a “Dana economy”: Birmingham Buddhist Centre, UK

By Munisha on Tue, 3 Nov, 2015 - 12:35

Dana, or generosity, is top of several traditional Buddhist lists of fine ethical qualities to be cultivated. For any Triratna Centre, there’s a big decision: charge for classes or retreats and run the risk that some people will be put off booking, or run a “Dana economy” – relying entirely on donations - and risk a financial shortfall?

Samachitta is Chair of Birmingham Buddhist Centre (UK). She writes: “All Buddhist classes at the Birmingham Buddhist Centre have been free since 2009.

Awakening money by giving more

By Munisha on Mon, 22 Jun, 2015 - 23:58

More ideas from Amalavajra, Triratna’s European fundraiser, for reviewing your relationship with money.

“The second Buddhist precept is ‘With open-handed generosity I purify my body.’

  • Recognise the abundance you enjoy by writing down at the end of each day five things you have been given. (Even a bus ride counts!)
  • ‘Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.’ (Howard Thurman) Take seriously that dreamwork (for
