We are delighted to announce that on 30 April 2024 the ordinations of the following eight women from Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand took place at Vijayaloka Retreat Centre near Sydney, Australia:

The public ordination of Jarkko Lavinen took place this afternoon at the Helsinki Buddhist Centre.

He becomes Lalitachitta, meaning he whose mind is playful
Maharatnapriya was his private preceptor and Saddhaloka was his public preceptor.

I am delighted to announce that the former Don Lawson was publicly ordained on 10th December at the Wellington Buddhist Centre.

He becomes Surangamamati, ‘He who has a mind of heroic progress’ .  There is an accent above the ’s’, long ‘u’ and a dot over the ‘n’.

Registered spelling Shurangamamati. 

His private preceptor is Purna and his public preceptor is Ratnavyuha.

This month I seem to have emerged more fully from the era of Covid lockdowns. As well as my regular visits to South Wales, I’ve also been to London, Stratford-upon-Avon (wonderful to get to the theatre again: Henry VI and Richard III), and Leek in northern England (checking out a possible property for Tiratanaloka). I’ve also been kayaking down the River Taff to Cardiff basin, negotiating a couple of weirs and a lot of rocks...

The College of Public Preceptors is delighted to announce the appointment of four Public Preceptors: Abhayadana and Vijaya from Nagpur, and Abhayavati and Shubhajaya from Pune; all from India. These are especially significant appointments as there have been no Indian women Public Preceptors active in the College since Jnanasuri and Karunamaya each retired for health reasons (although they, and Srimala, continue to support the situation).
