Dear Order members and friends,

Being someone who only seems able to write when up against a deadline can be a little scary, as there comes a point when you just have to press ‘send’. This is what had emerged by 2am. It isn’t what I expected or set out to do, but what I happened to be reflecting on.

During the March Area College gathering for the UK, Ireland and Europe, Kamalashila attended for an evening to have a farewell following his retirement from the Preceptors’ College at the end of last year. Dear Order members

April was a month that for most of us meant getting used to social distancing or lockdown; concern about the health of ourself or those near and dear to us; and financial anxiety – whether our own or that of the Buddhist Centres and other institutions. Some countries are beginning to consider how and when they might begin to lift restrictions; others are facing worsening conditions of health, finances, and even access to food.

We can only speculate about the future....

Dear friends

The College of Public Preceptors is delighted to announce that Jnanavaca has been appointed as a Public Preceptor. 

Jnanavaca was ordained in 1999 at the Hsuan Tsang Retreat Centre in India by Subhuti, who is both his private and public preceptor. 

For many years Jnanavaca has been living at Samaggavasa, one of the men’s communities above the London Buddhist Centre. He has been very active in the life of that centre, holding a number of responsibilities. He is a kalyana mitra to many and...

It’s been interesting to look back over my first two months as College Chair, as well as starting to get a perspective on the next five years.

Actually my reflections go back to November 2018, when Bhante Sangharakshita had just died and his funeral coincided with the College meeting during which I was asked to become future Chair of the College. Following the March meeting of the College of Public Preceptors, Saddhaloka, as Chair of the College, sent a message to all Order members.
