The Worldly Winds & Equanimity (Facebook live 13.05.20)

From Croydon Buddhist Centre on Thu, 14 May, 2020 - 08:55

When the Worldly Winds blow we try to maintain our equanimity. But can the idea of “equanimity” sound rather detached and unfeeling? It’s actually the complete opposite of that! A short talk and led meditation with Vajragupta, live streamed on Facebook Wednesday 13th May

New Home Retreat: Turning Arrows Into Flowers - Starts Friday!

Turning Arrows Into Flowers
A Seven-Point Mind Training, May 15-22

A mythic image to sum up and symbolize the theme of this week is that of the Buddha on the cusp of his Enlightenment. He is sitting still at the point when Mara attacks him with all the weapons he can muster. But, as the story goes, even though the Buddha is attacked he does not react with anger, hatred or defensiveness. Instead he sits in complete peace and openness;...

Donation to the Buddhist Centre Online

From Adhisthana on Wed, 13 May, 2020 - 17:08

Since Adhisthana closed, we have been cancelling retreats and refunding those booked on a rolling basis. When contacting people we have also been inviting them to donate their deposit (or more), to be distributed to those Triratna centres and organisations that will need additional help with funding during these uncertain times.

There has been a massive outpouring of generosity from people, and you can see some of the team talking about this in more detail in one of our blog post ‘...

Death of Shraddhapushpa

From Order Connection on Wed, 13 May, 2020 - 12:10

Dear Order Friends,

We are very sad to inform you that Shraddhapushpa died peacefully this morning in St Joseph’s Hospice. Both her daughter Helen and foster son Ayen kept vigil with her for more than 24 hours until she passed away.

She was conscious and alert until a couple of days ago, and was able to speak to family and friends on the phone. She was also in good mental states and remained interested in her loved ones and the world while still conscious. Many of her sangha...

The Triratna Arts and Culture Catalogue is an initiative to document every four years, for 40 years, a selection of Art and Culture that represents the unfolding exploration of how to convey the Dharma into a globalised culture and so form the aesthetic foundations for a society based on caring for all that lives. It will collate work for no cost to artists, and distribute work to Triratna Buddhist Centres and beyond at no cost to those institutions.

Sangharuci, an Order member based in Birmingham, UK, is now looking for artists, musicians, dancers, poets, writers, arts...

Dharmabyte: Entering Each Other’s Worlds

From Free Buddhist Audio on Mon, 11 May, 2020 - 14:00

Another cracking talk from Vajratara exploring Metta as a path to insight.

What happens when Metta passes through the fires of sunyata? Insight isn’t a cold, detached featureless state. Insight has it’s own positive character – increasing awareness of others and spontaneous compassionate activity.

From the talk entitled Metta and the Path of Insight given on a Young Womens’ Weekend at Taraloka, 2013.

Free the Dharma - Mind in Harmony by Subhuti

From Windhorse Publications on Mon, 11 May, 2020 - 13:21

This is the eighth week that we’ll be sharing a weekly e-book. When we started in March, it seemed likely that it would be something we’d do for a month or two at the most. Yet here we are, two months later, and this new future stretches before us.

This week we’re giving away Subhuti’s Mind in Harmony: the psychology of Buddhist ethics. You can download it free here until 25 May. You can also buy a paper copy here
