A Living Bodhisattva - The Life of Dhardo Rimpoche

From Padmaloka Retreat Centre on Sun, 4 Apr, 2021 - 00:00
To introduce a series of talks on the motto 'Cherish the Doctrine, Live United, Radiate Love', Padmasagara gives a biographical sketch of Dhardo Rimpoche's life, told primarily through the eyes of our own teacher - Urgyen Sangharakshita - who came to regard Dhardo Rimpoche as a 'living bodhisattva' and from whom he received the bodhisattva ordination in 1962. This talk is part of a series on Dhardo Rimpoche's motto 'Cherish the Doctrine, Live United, Radiate Love'.

Cherish the Doctrine

From Padmaloka Retreat Centre on Sun, 4 Apr, 2021 - 00:00
In the Amitayurdhyana sutra of the Pureland tradition, the Buddha Shakyamuni manifests himself before the imprisoned Queen, Vaidehi - thrown into the deepest dungeon by her son, Prince Ajatasatru - and teaches her to meditate on the Buddha Amitabha in the western Buddhafield of Sukhavati, the Land of Bliss. In this talk, Padmasagara draws themes from the sutra to demonstrate that in order to 'Cherish the Doctrine', we must understand its value, appreciate its beauty, and connect to it on the basis of Imagination. This talk is part of a series on Dhardo Rimpoche's motto 'Cherish the Doctrine, Live United, Radiate Love'.

FBA Podcast: The Lord of the Midnight Sun

From Free Buddhist Audio on Sat, 3 Apr, 2021 - 06:00

Vaddhaka can usually be relied on to give a pretty great talk - and this is no exception. Here we have a real treat - a terrific, energetic exploration of the green Buddha of the north: Amoghasiddhi (Dundubishvara), the Unobstructed One. This is kind of a multi-media affair - listen for the 13th Century Spanish processional music in honour of the Virgin, and a blast of Sibelius too! Marvellous.

Talk given at Padmaloka Retreat Centre, Winter Retreat, 2001.

Triratna Anniversary Weekend

From Order Connection on Fri, 2 Apr, 2021 - 10:26

“Whether they took the Bodhisattva ordination or not, everybody present should try to imbibe the Bodhisattva spirit and echo the Bodhisattva vow in their own hearts… It was almost as if, having not as yet established a direct connection between the Arising of the Will to Enlightenment and Going for Refuge, I at least wanted the Bodhisattva Ideal to ‘be around’ and ready to enter the situation as soon as conditions permitted.”

~ Sangharakshita, from The History of My Going for Refuge in The...
