Tibetan Book of the Dead - The Six Bhardos (FBA Podcast)

From Free Buddhist Audio on Sat, 6 Sep, 2025 - 11:00

Padmavajra explores the great text that reveals the realms between death and new life, where anything is possible in the Bardo - the ‘intermediate state’. This is also an excellent introduction to the recent history of the text itself as it has come into the West and influenced practitioners and cultural figures in many significant ways. Overall, this is a challenging and insightful series looking at how a true classic of spiritual literature has relevance to our...

Distracted From Distraction by Distraction

From Sheffield Buddhist Centre on Fri, 5 Sep, 2025 - 00:00
Mindfulness is at the very heart of Buddhist life, but how do we look after our minds? Do we even know when we’re being distracted! On Tuesday Vimaladasa will explore what it means to live a life compatible with developing a mind ‘clear and radiant’. How should we behave? What is ‘Right’ and ‘Wrong’? And does that even matter anyway? In the 1960s, Sangharakshita and other early Western Buddhists asked questions like these. They critiqued society’s views about ‘good’ and ‘bad’ behaviour in the light of The Buddha’s teachings on ethics and karma from 2,500 years earlier in ancient India. However, the world we live in now is very different again from when Sangharakshita gave his lectures on ethics. So what are the current ethical issues that we need to think about as practicing Buddhists in our time, in our society?

Pointing to the Moon of Non-Separation
A weekend exploring suññatā as non-separation with Tejananda
3-5 Oct

Reserve your place here

In our online retreat earlier in the year, the ‘moon’ to which I was pointing was the unfindability of a separate self. The kind of self that we think we are - persisting, potentially satisfactory and somehow ‘who and what I really am’ - is nothing but a mental fabrication. Our fabricating of this leads to suffering.

This weekend retreat explores the other ‘side’...
