Letter from the Chair – December 2024

From College of Public Preceptors on Sat, 30 Nov, 2024 - 09:34

Dear Order members and friends,

A year ago at the College’s annual international meeting I was surprised when my fellow College members asked me to take over from Ratnadharini, in a year’s time, as the next College Chair. However, I quite quickly adjusted and have spent much of the last year reflecting on what this responsibility requires of me, and preparing to take it on. I am grateful to Ratnadharini for her support in this handover - I admired her chairing...

Manchester Buddhist Centre is looking for a Women’s Mitra Convenor

From Jobs, Volunteering & Communities on Fri, 29 Nov, 2024 - 11:26[edit]

Manchester Buddhist Centre is entering a new and exciting phase. Working with our new Chair, Lokeshvara, the MBC Trustees have recently concluded we will have to move from our current premises and find a new home for our sangha. We have set a two year time frame on making this transition. You will be very much involved in helping us make this transition.

Our sangha is lively and engaged, with an increasing number of young women getting involved. We have 86 women mitras, 45 of whom have asked for...

Full-time Executive Assistant to the International Council

From Jobs, Volunteering & Communities on Thu, 28 Nov, 2024 - 15:35

Are you inspired to work at the heart of Triratna?

There are various groupings of senior Order members who have overlapping responsibilities that, between them, cover the whole Order and Movement […]. There needs to be some liaison between them all so they are not each just going their separate ways or coming into some sort of conflict… We definitely need such a structure if we are to be effective…

'Wisdom Takes the Form of Light': Shinjin As Faith, Bodhicitta and Wisdom

From Taraloka Retreat Centre on Thu, 28 Nov, 2024 - 00:00
Talk 3 of 8. The Buddha as presence and absence. What happens when the conditioned mind lets up for a bit? Experiences of beauty, openness, love, desire to go for refuge and devotion naturally arise; we experience contact with ‘amida’, the quality of limitlessness. Are those experiences ‘ours’ – or something else? For experienced Dharma practitioners.

Shinjin: Failure of Self and Going For Refuge

From Taraloka Retreat Centre on Thu, 28 Nov, 2024 - 00:00
Talk 4 of 8. ‘Like the cherry blossom, the heart planning on tomorrow is ephemeral indeed. What sudden storm may not arise in the middle of the night?’ Like Shakyamuni Buddha, Shinran’s deep sense of the uncertainty and unreliability of the existential situation drives his going forth. Yet ‘going forth’ isn’t ultimately from a place or a context: it’s going forth from the mind that grasps, including within the Dharma life. For experienced Dharma practitioners.

Everything Happening In Relation: Shakyamuni and the Pure Land Tradition

From Taraloka Retreat Centre on Wed, 27 Nov, 2024 - 00:00
Talk 1 of 8. The life of Shakyamuni as relationality, and the growth of the Pure Land mythic world. How do we see the life of the Buddha? As the myth of the solitary hero, or as a story of conditionality: awakening arising through our relations with others? How do processes of transformation arise? They arise within relatedness, because that’s the nature of reality itself. For experienced Dharma practitioners.
