Health of Khemavira

From Order Connection on Fri, 17 Oct, 2025 - 12:39

Dear Order members,

Our dear friend Khemavira from Birmingham in the UK was re-admitted to hospital yesterday, 16th October, with double pneumonia.

Satyapala, Maitrisara and myself all spent several hours with him talking, holding his hand and chanting the Tara mantra. His condition had stabilised before we left but it seems unlikely that he will survive this serious illness in addition to his other very serious health conditions.

Please remember him in...

Positive Emotion the Life-Blood of the Sangha

From Padmaloka Retreat Centre on Thu, 16 Oct, 2025 - 00:00
In this talk Padmavajra speaks about Bhante Sangharakshita's tremendous emphasis on the place of positive emotion in the Dharma life and the necessity of transforming our emotions. He quotes extensively from Bhante's 1978 lecture A System of Meditation. At the beginning of his talk Padmavajra speaks of the Buddha's teaching of the Noble Quest and Bhante's somewhat neglected teaching of Buddhism being 'philosophically' a dualism.

3 Short Talks On the Lower Realms

From Sheffield Buddhist Centre on Wed, 15 Oct, 2025 - 00:00
Working with the Realms of the Asuras, the Hungry Ghosts and Hell Beings - 3 Short Talks - Dayaloka, Dayasingha & Anantakirti. Last week we looked into the three realms that speak of the struggles of human existence: the asuras (titans), the pretas (hungry ghosts), and the tormented beings of the hell realms. Join us this week for short talks by Order Members of their deeply personal experience of these painful realms. We'll hear how visits to these realms can bring growth and transformation, and how confidence and freedom is cultivated in the journey back to the human realm. During this theme we'll be looking at The Wheel of Life, a living symbol that encompasses the entirety of existence. We'll learn how to escape from the prison and sufferings of Samsara, towards ever increasing positive and expansive states of being, towards the ultimate goal of Awakening. We'll be taking a contemporary look at this ancient symbol, visiting it's realms and their beings from the depths of the hell realm to the heights of the heavenly abodes, and asking what do these realms look like in our modern society and world? Expect support for home practice, practical ideas of how to bring these traditional teachings into your everyday life, and reflections on how to make your Great Escape!
