Withdrawal of Names From the Order Membership List

From Order Messenger on Thu, 29 Jan, 2026 - 16:15

Dear Order members,

This is to inform you of two names which I am withdrawing from the Order membership list. In both cases their preceptor was Bhante. It falls to me as Chair of the College, in consultation with the Deputy Chairs, to ensure that such decisions are taken with proper care and consideration. In withdrawing the names we have followed the approach set out by Bhante in his 1990 paper ‘My Relation to the Order’, which includes:

“I ….need hardly say that no...

The Honeyball Sutta

From Sheffield Buddhist Centre on Wed, 28 Jan, 2026 - 00:00
Join us to hear Vadanya tell the story of Dandapani, an opinionated old man who encounters the Buddha and receives a teaching about how our opinions can lead to conflict. Come and hear how the Dharma is a path to harmony and peace in the world. Very much a teaching for our times! What was The Buddha really like? We are told that the Buddha broke through into a radically different state of being, transcending ordinary human consciousness. What might it have been like to encounter that? There was something magnetic, awesome, mysterious, and powerful about The Buddha. Some people even ‘WOKE UP!’ just by being in his presence. During this series we will go on a journey, where we will glimpse The Buddha by imagining our way into some of the brilliant stories handed down to us - stories of an Enlightened Being interacting with the people he met. We’ll be asking ourselves, what we can learn about The Buddha from these stories…and we’ll attempt to bring some of those qualities into the situations and people that we encounter in our daily life.

Whilst these photos are no longer used in the HTML format of Shabda, I gather some Order members like to have them as a reference and a reminder.
