The Group and the Spiritual Community

From Cambridge Buddhist Centre on Fri, 3 Feb, 2017 - 00:00
The first of our talks on the theme of What is the Sangha? Parami is currently the International Order Convenor for Triratna and has lived and worked within Triratna for many years of her life. Sangha is very important to her and her years of experience will help us to get a clearer idea of what makes a spiritual community, rather than a positive group.

The Dedication Ceremony for the new Tara Cabin. Held at Taraloka on the 1st February 2017. Looking back to the previous cabin and the dedication made by Sangharakshita. Rejoicing in Mokshapushpa, as her legacy kickstarted the fundraising for the new building. Rejoicing in the generosity of the women who gave money, time, energy to work on the project. Rejoicing in Craig who designed, dreamt up and built the cabin with his band of fabulous tradespeople.

Dhammadinna’s reflections on her many years of living in Triratna communities

From College of Public Preceptors on Thu, 2 Feb, 2017 - 16:14

I live in Samayakula community, along with eleven other women, in two adjoining houses, near the London Buddhist Centre.  We have not long come back together after the mid-winter/new year break.  Some of us have been on the LBC winter retreats and returned with many stories to tell. Others have been to visit family, or stayed at home in the community.  On our first community evening of the New Year we launched our ‘rainy season light’ for the month...

We have lift off !!

From Croydon Buddhist Centre on Thu, 2 Feb, 2017 - 16:06

We certainly set off like a rocket the first week. Scaffolding was up on day 1, so we were able to have the health and safety inspection, and start removing the corrugated iron roof, on day 2. Unfortunately, removing the roof materials, showed us what a poor state, the wooden structure underneath, was in.

Crisis !? Yes, but, a crisis made easier by the relaxed nature of our lovely contractors 2SS, who reassured us that most of the damaged timber we saw,...

Maitreyi writes about life at Tiratanaloka

From College of Public Preceptors on Thu, 2 Feb, 2017 - 15:48

This time of year at Tiratanaloka is quite magical; we’ve had days of hard frost and bright sunshine, and today, driving into Brecon with Kalyacitta for a swim, a huge arc of a rainbow, its colours pale and muted against the rainclouds, cast an otherworldly light on the green hills.

There’s a post-ordination retreat taking place in the Retreat Centre currently; twelve dharmacharinis who were ordained at Akashavana last summer. At this end of the building in the community, a few of...

From Community Highlights on Wed, 1 Feb, 2017 - 16:58

In honor of Black History Month, Tricycle is presenting a special video series, “Teachings for Uncertain Times,” featuring 13 teachers of color.

In the first talk of the series, Vimalasara (Valerie) Mason-John, a teacher in the Triratna Buddhist tradition, explains how practitioners of color can face barriers to entering the Buddhist path.

“We live in times where there is a disproportionate amount of black people being killed by the police, a disproportionate number of black people incarcerated in prisons and mental institutions....

“Buddhas in my Pocket”: An Australian Buddhist pilgrimage

From Triratna News on Tue, 31 Jan, 2017 - 16:03

Maitripala is an Order member in Australia. When I met her a couple of years ago, she told me of her plans to embark on a pilgrimage along the east coast of Australia to volunteer for different Triratna Buddhist Groups and Centres. Wearing her kesa every day for a year, she would also hand out small Buddha figures to strangers she met along the way. Here she describes how this incredibly moving adventure has been unfolding.

Maitripala writes: “I have been given...
