Introducing the Eight Guidelines OM

From College of Public Preceptors on Mon, 28 Dec, 2020 - 14:08

Dear Order members,

We are pleased to introduce to you a revised and expanded version of the Six Guidelines – now become the Eight Guidelines. While the Six Guidelines have been very useful over the years, they do not address all the principal areas of ordination training.

The new Eight Guidelines offer a more comprehensive framework through which Order members can reflect on a mitra’s readiness for ordination....

From Jobs, Volunteering & Communities on Thu, 24 Dec, 2020 - 14:18

We’re looking for an experienced front-end developer to start with us in the new year. This would initially be envisaged as a fixed-term contract for 18 months, with the possibility of extending further. The position could be full or part-time by arrangement.

2020: A Review of the Year

From Community Highlights on Tue, 22 Dec, 2020 - 16:15

Windhorse Publications is one of only a handful of Buddhist publishers in the West, and, to our knowledge, we’re the only Buddhist publisher based in the UK. For the past forty-five years, the books we’ve published (by Sangharakshita and other authors) have been instrumental in the continued spread of the Dharma to the West and have formed a rich treasure-trove of resources for the Triratna Buddhist Community. Our vision is for Windhorse Publications to continue to spread life-changing Dharma...

ESPAÑOL ABAJO

Help us build the “Enlightened Forest”

We are living difficult times, all of us, without a doubt. From the long perspective this is nothing new. “Samsara”, the world we live in is characterized by a mixture of joy and suffering. What can we offer to this world?

What we can do is collaborate, help each other, manifest what we can call “Team Human”, that is, a collaboration between several people contributes much more than a single person alone can do. Suryavana...

Learning from the FPMT in the case of Dagri Rinpoche

From Triratna Safeguarding on Thu, 17 Dec, 2020 - 16:50

Post updated 11th February 2021; see final paragraph.

November saw the publication within the Tibetan tradition FPMT (Foundation for the Preservation of the Mahayana) of a report on allegations of sexual assault carried out by Dagri Rinpoche. Dagri Rinpoche is not a member of FPMT, but is a visiting teacher ordained in the same lineage.

Whenever such reports are published, the ECA’s Safeguarding team looks carefully to see what we in Triratna can learn from others’ experience. In the spirit of...

Introducing 'I Hear Her Words'

From Windhorse Publications on Wed, 16 Dec, 2020 - 16:00

We’re delighted to announce that in May we’ll be publishing I Hear Her Words: An Introduction to Women in Buddhism by Alice Collett.

Core Buddhist doctrines and ethical formulations provide no justification for the notion that women are inferior to men. However, Buddhism was born and took root in ancient and medieval societies that held traditional views of women. In this way, social and cultural norms positioning women as inferior to men found their way into Buddhist tradition and some Buddhist texts. As...

Learning from the Catholic Church

From Triratna Safeguarding on Mon, 14 Dec, 2020 - 14:35

Following October’s release of a report on failures in preventing addressing child sexual abuse in the Anglican Church in England and Wales, November saw the publication of a 123-page report on similar failures in the Catholic Church in England and Wales.

NB: ‘Child sexual abuse’ includes the ‘non-contact’ offences of viewing, possessing or producing indecent images of children.

Whenever such reports are published,  we at the ECA’s Safeguarding team look carefully to see what we can learn. We’ll...
