#EthicalChristmas: Jai Bhim International - A Fire And A Tsunami

From Buddhist Centre Features on Sat, 29 Nov, 2014 - 14:2610 years ago on Christmas day my house burned down, while I was on a Buddhist meditation retreat in the Santa Cruz mountains. Across the world, the same week, a tsunami destroyed villages on the coast of Chennai, southeast India, leaving whole communities homeless, jobless, displaced. Back in San Francisco, lying on Amy and Megan’s couch, feeling sorry for myself on New Year’s eve, faces of newly-orphaned children flickered across a tiny screen. #EthicalChristmas - What Is Jai Bhim?

From Buddhist Centre Features on Fri, 28 Nov, 2014 - 16:32Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar might be the most famous Indian you’ve never heard of. Did you know that there are more statues in his image than of anyone else in the country? You will hear people every day, if you listen carefully, greeting one another with “Jai Bhim”. “Long live Dr. Ambedkar and his comitment...

In October they set about redeveloping and refurbishing their Buddhist Centre, starting with a fundraising project - the “Buddha Blitz” - which closed after little more than a month, having raised AUD 31000 (GBP 16,824/USD 26,510/EUR 21,215) – more than half of this on the first day!

They’ve formed an All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) devoted to mindfulness, which has been holding meetings throughout this autumn. Several people from Triratna are involved.

Vishvapani writes: “It’s moving to see how deeply the parliamentarians have been...

Transforming Work: Exploring Right Livelihood

From Triratna Young Buddhists on Wed, 26 Nov, 2014 - 16:28Work: Boring, stressful, tiring. Meaningful, inpiring, fun, liberating.
