On Dharma Day, July 5 in Cuernavaca, we welcomed two more mitras into the Triratna Community. These amazing people are Priscilla Ruanova and Lety Mancera. We are delighted that they want to deepen their Dharma practice in the context of Triratna.
So after our check in last night we did a dedication ceremony in the shrineroom and had this great poem of Ananda’s - ‘Be here now’. It’s a wonky/wabi-sabi scan done with my iPhone (like this whole reporting business, in fact!). I rather like it.
Of course we had to have timed writing to start with… (Wolf At The Door “Recipe” to follow!).

The UK’s national and local elections in May this year produced two new Buddhist politicians, both Triratna mitras: a Conservative member of parliament at Westminster and Oscar Gillespie, a local councillor for the Green Party in Cambridge. (We hope to bring you a piece from the new MP later this year.)
Oscar writes: “I have been an environmentalist and a vegetarian longer than I have been a Buddhist. I came to the Cambridge Buddhist Centre four years ago, and gained the conviction...
The first Triratna writers convention is happening all this week during the Ledbury Poetry Festival and we’ll be hearing from some of the lyric voices taking part. Join us through the week at Adhisthana for lots of literary talk and an exploration of the connections between the Arts and spiritual life - a big part of the Triratna Buddhist path.
On July 7th we’ll be starting a new six week series of meditations based on the Anuruddha Sutta and the Buddha’s description of how the qualities of a Dharma farer relate to the practices they engage in - especially in meditation itself.
This Dhamma is for one who is modest, not for one who is self-aggrandizing. This Dhamma is for one who is content, not for one who is discontent. This Dhamma is for one who is reclusive, not for one
One of the biggest difficulties one has to face into when one wants to change the world – whether this is helping to bring about world peace, tackling climate change, ending famine, overthrowing an unjust system – is the fact that it is impossible to do on your own. Think of Avalokitesvara, prior to the intervention of Amitabha: he fell into despair at the realisation of how little a difference he could make as just one being on his own.
On Tuesday 30th June, the Cardiff sangha took part in an evening of talks, discussions and workshops on the theme “Change ourselves - change the world”. This event was held as part on Buddhist Action Month 2015.
The first workshop was on ‘Vegetarianism and Veganism’ and included watching and discussing the very inspirational clip from Matthieu Ricard on “Keeping a Vegan and Vegetarian Diet”:
