From Buddhist Action Month 2014 on Thu, 19 Jun, 2014 - 13:01In an enlightening, inspiring and moving Sangha evening members of the group shared the place of altruism in their life and practice. Colin, a former member of Greenpeace and Friends of the Earth, and a very long-standing vegetarian (on altruistic grounds) talked of his voluntary work as an advocate for trade union members experiencing financial hardship and helping them to apply to benevolent funds. Levenshulme Sangha meets again!

From Manchester Buddhist Centre on Thu, 19 Jun, 2014 - 11:45There are now quite a few Sangha members who live in or around the Levenshulme area of Manchester. We’ve been meeting up regularly for a few months now - meditating together, and having breakfast too. The latest meeting was last Sunday at Adele’s allotment! Several of us meditated and then enjoyed wok fried chips! Music was provided by our youngest member, Ruby - just 13!
Here are some pics.

Sangha As a Radical Alternative to Capitalism and Modern Youth Culture

From Birmingham Buddhist Centre on Tue, 17 Jun, 2014 - 01:00
Young Peoples facilitator Kara Moses talks about why industrialised Capitalist society presents us with particularly challenging conditions for Buddhist practise, and how the Sangha provides a radical positive alternative - with a focus on the younger Sangha and modern youth culture. Kara explains the capitalist socio-economic system in simple terms and presents this as a direct contradiction to a Buddhist vision of society. This talk was given at the Birmingham Buddhist Centre on Triratna Day 2013, which was hosted by the Yobs (Birmingham Young Buddhists) group, with a theme of Gratitude.
