Philosopher Strikes Gold

From Western Buddhist Review on Mon, 15 Oct, 2018 - 13:19

Another review – this time by myself (Dhīvan) on an excellent new history of Buddhist philosophy in India:

The Golden Age of Indian Buddhist Philosophy

by Jan Westerhoff

Oxford University Press, 2018, 326pp £30 hb

 review by Dhīvan

In a customary gesture in books like this one, [1] Jan Westerhoff asks in his introduction what the purpose might be in his writing another history of Buddhist philosophy, given that those already available were written by such eminent scholars. In this case, the eminent scholars are Volker Zotz (writing in...

One of our senior order members named Purna has agreed to come over to Coogee to give a talk on the evening of Friday October 19th.

Great Ocean

From Lights In The Sky on Sat, 6 Oct, 2018 - 23:33

‘Suryaprabha’s subtle visual means of conveying his message is an important contribution to the arts in [Triratna].’

Friendship is the lifeblood of our movement and Sangharakshita’s example is its source. But there is no real record of his friendships, and as time passes chances to create it diminish.  What is needed is a film about Bhante and friendship.

‘I am grateful for your very skilled, beautiful hard work. Yes, your videos are very important to me, to us all - important even in ways...

The Five Things That Make Us Up: A Buddhist View of Being and Experience

From Portsmouth Buddhist Center on Thu, 4 Oct, 2018 - 20:36

Sundays 9.30am-12pm, October 7- November 11

Here in Portsmouth we’re spending Fall and early Winter exploring Spiritual Receptivity as part of our year-long exploration of what it means to have a rounded approach to the Dharma – and how we might live more in alignment with it. It’s been sweet as an apple to sit each week with our experience, cooling off after the heat of summer. And now it’s time to start to mulch down with the many-colored leaves that have blown our...

Evolution of a Pacifist - Sean O'Casey and Buddhism

From Dublin Buddhist Centre on Thu, 4 Oct, 2018 - 20:13

Eventually in ‘The Silver Tassie’, set partially in the trenches of WW1, he espoused a pacifist message of the utter futility of war.

Maitrikaya explores how O’Casey believed in the solidarity of the entire human race over narrow national interests and how,...
