Vassika - A Vision of History, Revisited

By akasajoti on Mon, 19 Sep, 2016 - 23:55

Given on the Women’s International Order Convention 2016, at Adhisthana.

Revisiting Bhante’s 1978 talk on the Vision of History, Vassika articulates our responsibility to become a true and vital spiritual community in a pure and uncompromising form, in order to respond to and transform the world. She makes five suggestions; to strive to become true individuals; to maintain harmony in the Order, to reach out into the world and provide conditions for personal transformation; to keep alive Bhante’s vision of history and...

The Golden Buddha

By akasajoti on Tue, 23 Aug, 2016 - 18:04

At the end of the first day of the Women’s International Order Convention at Adhisthana, Parami sits on the sofa of the women’s community with Kuladharini and Akasajoti and talks about some of the highlights of the day. Kuladharini talks about her relationship with Shakyamuni, and her practice as an anagarika. She describes a beautiful moment of her heart breaking open and hearing the words, “all griefs faithfully observed turn towards love”. And we hear a little from Akasajoti about...

By Candradasa on Thu, 11 Jun, 2015 - 17:56

As part of Buddhist Action Month 2015 and the international Triratna Young Buddhists weekend, we present this archive version of a live streamed Dharma talk and conversation by Parami. The talk and discussion touch on many aspects of what it is to find the meeting place between our own highest values and the world in which we find ourselves practising.

One of the most experienced and pioneering members of our Order, Parami has helped build the Triratna Buddhist...

Dharmabyte - The Buddha’s Visions

By Rijupatha on Fri, 21 Feb, 2014 - 13:38
Today’s FBA Dharmabyte is a lovely reading, and reflection on, “The Buddha’s Visions.” Here we have Candradasa reading to us, quite poetically, as the Buddha recalls his previous lives and the vision of the lotuses. He then reflects on faith and experience in practice. From the talk “Religion Without God, Part 3 – Death and the Biggest Questions of All”, the third talk in a four-part series looking at how you can have a...

Religion Without God, Part 4 - Magic For the Modern World

By Candradasa on Sat, 10 Nov, 2012 - 14:50
In the final talk of our series on ‘Religion Without God’, Candradasa offers a personal look at aspects of magic in the East and West, considering its place in Buddhist history and practice and also its meeting with Christianity at the time of the Renaissance. What emerges is a picture of how magic defined in various ways can be a powerful metaphor for the everyday work of Buddhist meditation and ethical practice - with the enchantment of love and wisdom...

Religion Without God, Part 3 - Death and the Biggest Questions of All

By Candradasa on Sat, 20 Oct, 2012 - 20:57
In the third talk in our ‘Religion without God’ series, we have some big questions. When you don’t believe in an afterlife, what vision can there be around death and dying? What did the Buddha mean when he taught about karma, re-becoming and rebirth?

Here Candradasa uses Buddhist scripture, vision literature, and poetry to tease out a sense of the Buddha’s awesome vision of what life is, and how that might affect our ideas of what happens after death...
