#PilgrimageUnlimited Begins!

By akasajoti on Mon, 12 Jun, 2023 - 15:28

Ratnadharini’s epic journey to fundraise for Tiratanaloka Unlimited has begun!

After being waved off by the Adhisthana Community on Friday; this morning Ratnadharini set off from Tooting Broadway, showered in petals by Dhammagita, Vajratara, Dhammarati and Akasajoti.

Today she will walk 16.71 miles, along the Thames Path out of London to Shepperton, in 27°C heat and possible storms!

We’ll be following her all the way (in spirit!), sharing her progress and daily video diaries.

Sadhu!

Ratnadharini is walking 150 miles over 10 days, from Sangharakshita’s birthplace in London, to Adhisthana – where he died. Setting off from Tooting on 12th June, and arriving at Adhisthana on the 22nd, to raise money for Tiratnaloka [UN]LIMITED… Just in time to catch the pilgrims week and 108-hour circumambulation of his burial mound. She’ll be travelling as light as possible, but will...

Chair's Letter – May – A Pilgrimage from Tooting to Adhisthana

By ratnadharini on Fri, 2 Jun, 2023 - 08:37

Dear Order members and friends,

The decision to walk from Tooting to Adhisthana seemed spontaneous but obvious. I still don’t really know what it will mean, but alongside the practical preparation, themes are beginning to emerge – and no doubt there will be more. But before I go on to share one of these in particular, I will just mention a couple of other recent highlights.

The most recent of which is that there will soon...

Female Deities in Buddhism by Vessantara back in stock and Tiratanaloka Unlimited appeal

By Windhorse Publi... on Wed, 10 May, 2023 - 14:53

Many of you will already know or have bought Vessantara’s new edition of Meeting the Buddhas. What you may not know is that, in 2003, he wrote a short companion book called Female Deities in Buddhism: A Concise Guide, which has been out of stock for a while.

We’re really pleased to have it back in print.

It’s a rather unique little book that introduces and invokes the wide range of female Buddhist deities. Vessantara explores the depths of consciousness...

Chair's Letter – March 2023

By ratnadharini on Fri, 31 Mar, 2023 - 12:02

Dear Order members and friends,

Thanks to Maitreyabandhu for the evocative account of our network of friendships last month.

First I’ll write with an update from the March College meeting – and end with a personal request.

At that point last month, I was involved in our annual Women Preceptors’ retreat at Adhisthana, which gets better each year as the body of experience grows and the connections between us become stronger. We’d decided to make it an ‘in person’ event, while making the study...

International Women’s Day 2023: A Fundraiser for Tiratanaloka Unlimited

By Centre Team on Tue, 7 Feb, 2023 - 23:18

Saturday March 18th: Subhadramati and friends celebrating equal ordination for women

To celebrate this year’s International Women’s Day, we’re teaming up with Manchester Buddhist Centre in the UK to shine a spotlight on one of Triratna’s distinctive emphases – equal ordination for women. In fact, when Sangharakshita our founder created our Order in 1968 the very first person to be ordained was a woman.

Subhadramati, Dhammadinna, Dayanandi and friends will tell this 55 year history through their personal experiences. And...

Chairs' Letter – September 2022

By ratnadharini on Fri, 30 Sep, 2022 - 22:03

Dear Order Members and Friends,

I’m writing this month’s update from Aryaloka retreat centre, in the US. When I first became College Chair I planned to connect up with Order members outside the UK, but Covid restrictions put international travel on hold for a couple of years. Three weeks ago I set off on a road trip with Aryadrishti, one of the American Order Convenors, taking in some of the places I’ve not been to before: Seattle, Portland (Oregon), Missoula,...

Tiratanaloka Unlimited - an exciting new project!

By vajratara on Sat, 27 Aug, 2022 - 10:23

TIRATANALOKA [UN]LIMITED

We’ve outgrown our building.  Right now we have waiting lists for most of our retreats and more would come if we could host them.  We also need space for a bigger team to support the retreats.

We want a bigger retreat centre so that we can run retreats for at least 60 people and house a community of 12.

Imagine not being limited to only booking for one retreat but being free to follow your own inspiration.

Imagine not having to undergo the...

Chairs' Letter – June 2022

By ratnadharini on Sun, 3 Jul, 2022 - 22:51

Dear Order Members + friends,

This month I seem to have emerged more fully from the era of Covid lockdowns. As well as my regular visits to South Wales, I’ve also been to London, Stratford-upon-Avon (wonderful to get to the theatre again: Henry VI and Richard III), and Leek in northern England (checking out a possible property for Tiratanaloka). I’ve also been kayaking down the River Taff to Cardiff basin, negotiating a couple of weirs and a lot of rocks...
