By Sadayasihi on Fri, 10 Aug, 2018 - 14:24

Sthanashraddha is Bhante’s secretary. He writes from AdhisthanaUK:

“Rain is falling at Adhisthana! Usually this would be nothing out of the ordinary, however it’s been nearly two months since we had any actual rain, having gone through one of the hottest sunny dry spells I’ve seen in many years. So, yes, the rain is falling and has been now for most of the last couple of days, long constant refreshing showers, which the gardens and plants...

By Sadayasihi on Fri, 27 Jul, 2018 - 12:02

In this FBA Dharmabyte, ‘Reflecting on Old Age and Death’, Sangharakshita takes us through a personal ramble through the history of letters and letter writing.

As usual the range of Sangharakshita’s reflections in this is hugely impressive - taking in late mediaeval and 18th century letter culture, provocative takes on Christianity, the Romantic poets and even the economy! It’s an education and a genuine, poignant pleasure to hear him evoke a vanishing art, pass on...

5 Years Of The Buddhist Centre Online: #6 Engaged Buddhism

By Sadayasihi on Wed, 18 Jul, 2018 - 17:38

It is not enough to be compassionate. You must act. There are two aspects to action. One is to overcome the distortions and afflictions of your own mind, that is, in terms of calming and eventually dispelling anger. This is action out of compassion. The other is more social, more public. When something needs to be done in the world to rectify the wrongs, if one is really concerned with benefiting others, one needs to be engaged, involved.” - The Dalai Lama

Sangharakshita's diary

By Sadayasihi on Mon, 16 Jul, 2018 - 14:27

Sthanashraddha is Bhante’s secretary. He writes from AdhisthanaUK:

“Coming to the end of June and having passed the summer solstice, summer has indeed been evident here at Adhisthana. Our rich clay soil is drying out and cracks are opening up in the flower beds here and there. The roses are at their peak and the occasional plant hasn’t made it through the hot dry days.

In the early half of June the Adhisthana resident...

The Middle Way Podcast: Sangharakshita and the Middle Way

By Sadayasihi on Wed, 4 Jul, 2018 - 12:42

The Middle Way Society is an international group for the study, promotion and practice of the Middle Way.  In June, Robert M. Ellis, a member of the Society, interviewed Sangharakshita about the Middle Way for their podcast.  The conversation covered much ground: starting with an exploration of the Middle Way in the context of the Buddha’s life, it moves into the areas of right effort, eternalism and nihilism, rebirth, livelihood and more.

The Middle Way ultimately is a matter of practice. One

By Sadayasihi on Thu, 28 Jun, 2018 - 14:54

This FBA Dharmabyte is called Chittamatra (‘Mind-Only’) from the talk The Depth Psychology of the Yogachara by Sangharakshita.

The Yogachara School of Indian Mahayana Buddhism and its doctrine of ‘Mind-Only’ (Chittamatra) crucially influenced the development of Zen. Here the doctrine is related to subjective and absolute idealism in Western philosophy.

This talk was given in 1967 and is part of the series Aspects of Buddhist Psychology.
