Chair's Letter – September

By ratnadharini on Tue, 1 Oct, 2024 - 09:00

Dear Order Members and Friends,

Back in July, as part of our search for new – larger – premises for Tiratanaloka, our retreat centre for women training for ordination, the team visited a Carmelite monastery about an hour north east of London, and thought it looked very promising. A couple of weeks ago we heard our offer had been accepted, so we’re very excited and hoping for a smooth transition. If you’d like to know more you can follow...

The Preceptors’ College is recruiting…

We are looking for an Order Member to join us some time between December – February to replace Akasajoti who has been the College Assistant for the last five years. This first role we are recruiting is full-time and will hold primary responsibility for the Preceptors’ College and play a supporting role with the International Council.

We’re also keen to hear from anyone who might be interested in joining the team in the future. We intend to recruit a...

Chair's Letter – July

By Kulanandi on Thu, 1 Aug, 2024 - 11:03

Dear Order Members and Friends,

I have just returned home from two Ordination Retreats. The first one was the long Ordination Retreat in Akashavana, Spain, where 19 fine women were ordained. The second one was much shorter in our Retreat Centre here in Vimaladhatu, Germany. It was for Utpaladaya who cannot physically manage the terrain at Akashavana and works as a teacher with limited holiday time. Both retreats were a source of joy and inspiration.

Akasasuri,...

Chair's Letter – May 2024

By ratnadharini on Sat, 1 Jun, 2024 - 17:46

Dear Order Members and friends,

Thanks to Purna for his evocative letter last month from Sudarshanaloka, the ‘land of beautiful vision’, in New Zealand; I’m very much looking forward to being there for the first time in a few months.

A few weeks ago I was at another of our retreat centres: Akashavana, ‘the forest retreat of luminous space’, in Spain. It was an informal visit as I hadn’t been there for many years and wanted to connect with the...

Chair's Letter – February 2024

By Vajrashura on Thu, 29 Feb, 2024 - 23:59

This month’s letter is written by Vajrashura, who first came across Triratna in Ireland, in 1999, at the age of 22. He was ordained in 2007 in Guhyaloka by Kulananda, and since 2009 has been the men’s Mitra Convenor for Dublin where he lives in a men’s community. He now also works for the Sikkha Project on a part-time basis and joined the College in 2020.

Hear more from Vajrashura in a talk he gave on Sadhana, White Tara and...

Chair's Letter – January 2024

By ratnadharini on Wed, 31 Jan, 2024 - 20:00

Dear Order members and friends,

December and January were relatively quiet months for me. Zoom meetings and emails tend to ease up over the festive season and I was able to spend two weeks in Wales doing house repairs and having some time to myself as well as catching up with family; it was my mother’s 95th birthday in early January.

The women’s Area Order weekend back at the beginning of December – which is traditionally...

Four Myths + Five Farewells

By akasajoti on Tue, 14 Nov, 2023 - 10:18

Over the weekend, the College were joined by a number of retired Public Preceptors: Suvajra, Padmasuri, Sanghadevi, Saddhaloka; with Manjuvajra, Subhuti and Srimala visiting for some elements of the programme and to spend time together as ‘College Elders’.

Jnanavaca led three sessions of stimulating, interactive study on the ‘four myths of the spiritual life’. He explored this model that Subhuti conceived and introduced in a talk on an international Order convention in 2003 (and was more recently explored by Jnanavaca and Maitreyabandhu...

A Community of Public Preceptors

By akasajoti on Fri, 10 Nov, 2023 - 13:38

The past two mornings of the College meeting have been taken up with the process of discovering who will take on the responsibility of College Chair when Ratnadharini’s term comes to an end next November. The College Members present have been moving through a consensus process, skilfully held by Ratnadharini. This will be returned to after an interlude, to be concluded in the final days of the meeting, following which the outcome will be shared with the Order. The afternoons...
