Going for Refuge, Sincerity and Effectiveness | The Eight Guidelines

By akasajoti on Mon, 1 Mar, 2021 - 11:31

Ratnavyuha, from Auckland, New Zealand, and Ratnadharini from the UK, discuss themes of Going for Refuge, Sincerity and Effectiveness in the first in a series of informal, personal, conversations between Public Preceptors about the Eight Guidelines for Ordination Training.

The Eight Guidelines offer a framework through which Order Members and Mitras can reflect on and communicate about their going for refuge and process of training for Ordination into the Triratna Buddhist Order. In this series, members of the Preceptors’ College from...

Padmaloka Autumn-Winter Programme 2020 Now Released

By Satyakirti on Sat, 29 Aug, 2020 - 15:33

It’s been almost 6 months since we had our last residential event here at Padmaloka, the Friends and Guest week, and since then it has just been the community occupying the halls and rooms of Padmaloka, keeping the atmosphere of the shrine room alive and the dust and dirt off the walls and floors.

We were delighted to announce that we will be opening for hybrid events, both residential and online. For the time being the residential aspects of these...

The Next Phase at Padmaloka: Opening a Hybrid Retreat Centre

By Satyakirti on Wed, 5 Aug, 2020 - 12:54

We’re on the cusp of another new phase beginning here at Padmaloka, that is the opening of a Hybrid Retreat Centre.

Having looked at the UK Government’s advice for places of worship and the advice for accommodation providers, we will be able to run some events that have a small number of people physically on retreat here. The new programme will be made up of events that are either residential only, a hybrid of residential and online, or online only. In...

A forthcoming Ordination at the London Buddhist Centre

By Paramabandhu on Fri, 27 Mar, 2020 - 11:05

I am delighted to let you know of the forthcoming ordination of Gus Miller. Gus was invited to be ordained last year, along with two other men working for the London Buddhist Centre. As it would have put a great strain on the LBC for all three to be away at the same time, Gus kindly volunteered to wait for a year. Sadly, with the outbreak of Covid-19, we have had to cancel the Guhyaloka course and postpone it...

Ordinations Under the Bodhi Tree

By Sadayasihi on Wed, 28 Mar, 2018 - 14:52

On February 23rd 2018, just before the start of the International Order Convention in India two Mitras - one man and one woman - were ordained in Bodhgaya.  This Newsbyte from Clear Vision gives us a flavour of that occasion and, amidst the busyness and noise around the Mahabodhi Temple, we get a sense of following in the footsteps of the Buddha as Mokshasara and Shramanveer join the Triratna Buddhist Order.

Mummy, where do kesas come from?

By Munisha on Fri, 1 Dec, 2017 - 11:39

Ever wondered?

Carunalaka writes from Australia: “It’s a little-known fact that Vajradharini, from Pune, India, has been making kesas for the worldwide Triratna Buddhist Order for the past seven years.

Recently I suggested there were many people who would be delighted to ‘meet’ the woman who makes these items, given to members of the Order at their ordinations. I persuaded her to speak to camera - in English - even though she was very shy about doing so.

White kesas are...
