Benefit the world by doing a Karuna Appeal for Buddhist Action Month

By Sadayasihi on Wed, 16 May, 2018 - 12:05

“After this I feel I can do anything in the whole world” - Vicki from Sheffield at the end of her 2018 spring Karuna appeal.  Karuna Appeals provide participants with an opportunity to connect with others and themselves, all while giving something back to the world.

Are you interested in going beyond who you think you are? To benefit the world during Buddhist Action Month (BAM)?  There are 2 spaces available in the next women’s appeal, from 2 June...

BAM 2018: Focusing on Digital Technology and a Positive Collective Narrative

By Sadayasihi on Wed, 9 May, 2018 - 12:36

Mokshini writes on the BAM space: “Buddhist Action Month (BAM) is an opportunity to reflect on our values, and to take the time to think about and adjust a habit that we know has an adverse affect on ourselves and on the planet. Typical BAM activities over the last few years have included litter picks, beach cleans, a month of going vegan, or mindful time spent in nature - there are more ideas in the BAM Handbook

Meeting my selves! By Caroline Ivimey-Parr

By Sanghamani on Mon, 9 Apr, 2018 - 09:56

The phrase “the hardest thing I’d ever have done” is often used to describe appeals. It’s true – I’ve never done something as completely challenging and engaging on every level.

The hardest person for me to meet on the appeal has turned out to be myself. I love meeting strangers; I’m hungry for the connection and I find it much easier to hold rejection from others lightly. Facing up to the everyday ways I’m making my own life harder though is terrifying.

When you...

Transform self and world this BAM with Karuna

By Sanghamani on Wed, 4 Apr, 2018 - 15:47

Hi there…
Sanghamani here!

For this year’s Buddhist Action Month, I’m looking for volunteers to join me for our telephone appeal, based in the Karuna office in North London.

Karuna Appeals give us an opportunity to connect with others and ourselves, all while giving something back to the world. Using metta, sensitivity and awareness, we will work together to transform fear and resistance, exploring how we can remain open when faced with difference.

Our campaigns are perfect conditions to practice engaged Buddhism, a chance to...

Green Earth Awakening

By Munisha on Mon, 4 Dec, 2017 - 13:19

In the latest NewsByte, Clear Vision looks back at Buddhafield’s Green Earth Awakening festival, held 20th-24th September this year, when Buddhists of several traditions came together with non-Buddhists and activists and campaigners for a few days’ camping in the Blackdown Hills in Devon, UK.

As Buddhafield say on their website, “The Green Earth Awakening is a convergence of engaged Buddhism, community living, land skills, and creative responses [leading] towards social resilience.”

It’s 50 years since San Francisco’s ‘Summer of Love’, and with Buddhist Action Month in full swing across many countries, it’s a great moment to celebrate American Order member Vimalamoksha and his Tiny Homes Project, making innovative small wooden mobile homes for those living on the streets of San Francisco. Buddhist Action Month 2017 begins!

By Munisha on Thu, 1 Jun, 2017 - 08:45

June is Buddhist Action Month (BAM) and Triratna sanghas all over the world have been planning activities as part of this festival of Buddhist social action. Beginning in 2012 as a day (BAD!), this is a pan-Buddhist initiative from the UK’s Network of Buddhist Organisations. The theme this year is ‘Connecting for change’, which we’re connecting strongly with the Bodhisattva Ideal.

By mokshini on Wed, 15 Mar, 2017 - 12:12

This year for Buddhist Action Month 2017, we are making five special suggestion for a BAM action: Number #1 is  DIVESTMENT. If you don’t know much about divestment, then here is your chance to find out,  and more to the point, we can join in!

Tejopala has written a very helpful short intro to divestment explaining what it is and how you and your Centre can join it - see his “fossil fuel divestment for BAM guide”.

Launching the Ulex Project

By guhyapati on Sat, 18 Feb, 2017 - 16:39

The Ulex Project is possibly the most exciting initiative that the Ecodharma team have ever undertaken. Building on years of successfully innovating and developing trainings which integrate inner and social transformation, we are launching a new education centre and training programme. The new Ulex Project training centre will extend Ecodharma’s reach and enable us to support activists and organisers all across Europe.

Europe’s facing some deep social and ecological challenges. There’s a fragmenting political climate and the far right is gaining ground...
