Young Buddhist Coordinator in Australia and New Zealand

In order to build on the already vibrant Young Buddhist activities in Australia and New Zealand, Future Dharma are now supporting a Triratna Young Buddhist Coordinator for the entire Area for 2 days per week. Dhammakumāra, currently Triratna’s youngest Order member, moved from the UK to take up this role in August 2018.

Dhammakumāra is currently based in Sydney but travels to other centres in Australia and New Zealand quite often. Here he explains a bit about the role...

On Friday 30th November 2018, the Chairs of three of the four main Triratna Buddhist Centres in the South Pacific met in Sydney. European Chairs have long been very well networked via the European Chairs’ Assembly, but such gatherings are still under development in other parts of the world. In Australia/New Zealand, there has never been a Movement Strand (Order members running Triratna Centres) gathering and it is believed that this was the first ever meeting of Chairs across the whole of Oceania.

It’s become clear that the apparently large gathering of 1,200-1,400 people in the barn at Adhisthana on Saturday for Bhante’s funeral was, in fact, a small fraction of the international audience taking part by following the day live on Facebook and YouTube, and by participating in simultaneous events at Buddhist Centres around the world.

For a start, it’s estimated that those watching at public screenings across India numbered at least 61,000 – not including all those who watched at home or in social projects...

We are delighted to announce the public ordination of Geoff Walker at the Auckland Buddhist Centre on 16th December 2017.

Geoff’s new name is Dhīramuni. (The first ‘i’ is long.)
This is a Sanskrit name meaning ‘resolute sage’.
Westernised spelling: Dhiramuni
Private preceptor: Ratnavyuha
Public preceptor: Purna

Continuing our Triratna News mini-series marking the COP21 climate change talks in Paris, more news of climate change actions from around the Triratna world. 

Dublin Buddhist Centre, in Ireland, released their Statement on Human-Caused Global Warming today. Last week, we hear, Triratna individuals were among those staging a ritual inside the British Museum, as part of the Art, not Oil coalition’s opposition to BP’s (British Petroleum) sponsorship of several British arts institutions.

Death of Navachitta

By Munisha on Sat, 29 Nov, 2014 - 22:07With sadness we report the death of Dharmacharini Navachitta from Auckland, New Zealand.

She died in hospital in London, UK, at 18.30 local time today (7.30am 30th November, New Zealand time) from a severe bacterial and viral infection. Her daughter Genevieve had flown over from New Zealand and was with her, as was Dhammadinna; her sister Roi was present by telephone.

Navachitta was 62. She was ordained in the summer of 1990 at Taraloka. Her private preceptor...
