Vijayamuni's health

From Order Connection on Fri, 31 Dec, 2021 - 12:57

Dear brothers and sisters,

Our brother Vijayamuni has been sleeping and resting with his eyes closed more than usual this week at the men’s community in Pt. Chevalier, Auckland, NZ

The pain from multiple tumors in his spine and liver is being managed with intravenous methadone and he has morphine, anti anxiety and nausea medication when required. He’s lost his appetite for food and only sips small amounts of liquid. He’s quietly responsive when spoken to & occasionally utters related  comments … sometimes unrelated....

Dharmabyte: Renunciation of False Refuges

From Free Buddhist Audio on Thu, 30 Dec, 2021 - 06:00

This introductory talk by Dhammadinna is an ideal entry point to the world of the mind-turnings. Seen as foundations for the building of practice, the reflections encourage us to make life meaningful in the face of a relentlessly ungovernable reality. A strong look in the mirror of the heart.

Excerpted from the talk The Four Mind-Turning Reflections, the first talk in a five-part series from Tiratanaloka’s retreat on the ‘Four...

The Buddhist Centre Online Highlights from 2021

From Buddhist Centre Features on Sun, 26 Dec, 2021 - 12:58

2021 has been another rollercoaster of a year: with the three of the traditional ‘four sights’ of old age, sickness and death an ever present backdrop. But 2021 has also been interspersed with moments of beauty, generosity, connectedness and hope.

Our team has been busy this year keeping the fourth sight—the Dharma—alive; fostering community—sangha—at a time of continued uncertainty.

Looking back over the year, here are some of our highlights from the year that was 2021:

Could you be the new Centre Manager for Brixton?

From Jobs, Volunteering & Communities on Sun, 26 Dec, 2021 - 07:23

This is a rare opportunity to join a warm, friendly and spiritually vibrant situation in a full-time financially supported role. This role is at the very heart of our Brixton community, and is a key one in terms of supporting the increasing breadth, depth and unity of our sangha.

We are particularly keen to attract an Order Member from outside our immediate sangha to this role, however we would also consider a committed GFR Mitra, especially where they have existing connections...

From Free Buddhist Audio on Sat, 25 Dec, 2021 - 06:00

The work, inspired by devotion to Manjusri, is one of the key texts in the development of the Tibetan Lam Rim teachings. And Gampopa, being one of the two principle disciples of the yogi Milarepa, presents both the monastic Lam Rim approach of Atisha and the Mahamudra meditation teachings of Milarepa himself.

This is the seventh talk in an eight part series entitled ...
