By Munisha on Thu, 17 Mar, 2016 - 19:51

In the summer of 2015 Triratna people worldwide raised well over £100,000 for Sangharakshita’s 90th birthday, for the publication of his Complete Works, in hardback, softback and digital format. As Triratna publishers Windhorse Publications report, this mammoth project, anticipated to end in 2021, is well under way: the first volume will appear in October this year. Windhorse director Priyananda reports.

“In the next five years we will publish all the published work of our founder. Twenty-seven...

Looking Back at 2015

By Helen - Windhor... on Mon, 4 Jan, 2016 - 18:27

Thanks to our excellent authors and readers, 2015 has been a very good year for Windhorse Publications. We were pleased to publish four thoughtful new books and to receive support from our readers in the form of sponsorships.

The Buddha on Wall Street was first off the block. Its author Vaddhaka Linn greatly helped us promote it with a near-year-long and near-global tour of Triratna Buddhist centres in the UK, Ireland, Europe, Australia and New Zealand. We are really...

What does it feel like to move towards Enlightenment?

By Munisha on Mon, 14 Dec, 2015 - 23:49

What does it actually feel like to move towards Enlightenment? That’s the question asked by the authors of two recent books from Windhorse Publications (WP): Compassion and Emptiness in Early Buddhist Meditation, by Anālayo, and The Journey and the Guide, by Maitreyabandhu.

As WP’s Hannah Atkinson writes, “Both books are practical guides to the Buddha’s teaching – Compassion and Emptiness focuses on the meditative practices of compassion and emptiness, and The Journey...

Birthday collection reaches £80,000

By Munisha on Fri, 14 Aug, 2015 - 09:01

Congratulations! Today the worldwide collection for Sangharakshita’s 90th birthday passed the £80,000 mark, with 402 online donations from individuals and groups within Triratna. Help us reach our target: £100,000.

To give you more detail: the money will fund a 5-7-year project to publish Bhante’s Complete Works, including much material out of print or never published before, and in paper and digital, searchable, formats.

The editors, Kalyanaprabha and Vidyadevi, are already working on the early stages of the project, dividing his work into “baskets”....

51 years since Bhante's return from India

By Munisha on Thu, 13 Aug, 2015 - 08:53

Fifty one years ago yesterday (12th August 1964), Sangharakshita moved into the Hampstead Buddhist Vihara in north London, having returned from 20 years in India.

You can read about this period of his life in the volume of memoirs Moving against the Stream: the Birth of a new Buddhist Movement.

Celebrate Bhante’s long and varied life by making a donation for his 90th birthday project: his complete works, to be published online and on paper, for everyone, for ever.

Just £23,000 to go! By...

Aloka David Smith 1946-2015

By Munisha on Mon, 10 Aug, 2015 - 17:11

Sadly we report the death of Aloka David Smith from cancer in Birmingham on 31st July. He was 69. His funeral is on Thursday 13th August. (See below.)

Vessantara writes: “Aloka David Smith’s connection with Triratna began in 1997, when he wrote to Sangharakshita enclosing a manuscript he had written, an account of how his insight had unfolded during twenty years of Dharma practice.

Sangharakshita recognised in him ‘a kindred spirit’, and felt that his account of his Dharma experiences was ‘a treasure’. Sangharakshita felt...

Meanwhile, we bring you news of his latest book, soon to be published by Windhorse Publications. Kalyanaprabha is Bhante’s editor. She writes:

Buddhism and economics: an interview with Vaddhaka

By Munisha on Tue, 19 May, 2015 - 19:14

Vaddhaka is on a tour of Triratna Buddhist centres in the UK and Ireland, promoting his book about Buddhism and capitalism, The Buddha on Wall Street. See below for further dates.

Before his Manchester talk, Clear Vision filmed an interview with him. What is a practical Buddhist response to capitalism? How might an economics motivated by generosity look?

(32 minutes)

Hear Vaddhaka live! The UK and Ireland tour continues:

May 21st  Nottingham Buddhist Centre
May 26th  Liverpool Buddhist Centre (Sorry, this has had to be cancelled.)
