Fifty Years, Fifty Voices: Manjuvajra (Highlights)

By Zac on Wed, 10 Aug, 2022 - 09:55

What’s happened over the years is I’ve got more and more confident in the existence of the Buddha, the effectiveness of the Dharma and the joy of the Sangha.

Manjuvajra’s Annals:

In 1968 I was 21 years old, living in London, enjoying the ‘Swinging 60’s’, studying physics at Imperial College, exploring sex and drugs, dabbling in religion and psychology, and spending the summer hitch-hiking with my future wife across Europe to Yugoslavia and Turkey.

In 1978 I was doing research connected with...

Fifty Years, Fifty Voices: Maitripala (highlights)

By Zac on Thu, 4 Aug, 2022 - 12:45

I don’t need to go away from samsara to be really going for refuge. I can be right in the middle of it.

Maitripala Annals:

In 1968, I was 12 years old. I was living with my parents and siblings in suburban Reservoir, Melbourne Australia.
I was second eldest (first daughter) of five children. We had moved up to the city from an idyllic country life in Gippsland to have closer access to secondary schools. My early life...

Fifty Years, Fifty Voices: Suryaka (Highlights)

By Zac on Wed, 27 Jul, 2022 - 12:26

I need some sort of channel in my life, so that my energy can flow into it, really strongly.

Suryaka Annals

In 1968 I was 4 years old and lived in a small farming village in South Yorkshire in the UK. I lived with my parents and older sister. My grandma lived across the road and aunty, uncle and cousins also lived in the village. It was a safe place to grow up, everyone knew everyone else.

Vessantara - Finding Deeper and Deeper Reservoirs of Energy (Full Interview)

By Zac on Fri, 20 May, 2022 - 19:05

Things have changed in the last 10 years or so. A lot of it was just building on what I’d received from Bhante and other Order Members and other people… over the years. But I think, for me, it feels as if those three years with all that time to completely focus on the Dharma did sort of liberate things or bring to fruition a lot of seeds that had been planted by Bhante and other people over a long

Ratnakumar - Changing Self, Changing World (Full Interview)

By Zac on Tue, 10 May, 2022 - 17:00

I asked him, if I would go there, will I get food? And he said “Yes, obviously there will be a feast and you can have enough to eat.’ And I thought then, ’I’ll go.’

In 1998 when Ratnakumar was 13 years old, one of his cousins asked him if he’d like to go to a public meeting. That meeting just so happened to be an anniversary celebration for the birthday of Dr. Bimrao Ambedkar, the great leader of India’s Dalit community...

Fifty Years, Fifty Voices Website now live!

By Satyalila on Sun, 26 Aug, 2018 - 19:18

Just a quick note to announce that the Fifty Years, Fifty Voices website is now live!  It was always our intention to present the voices through a website, not just this, more ’linear’, blog.  Rijupatha has made a great start with the website, presenting all the voices currently available (20/50 so far) in an ‘at a glance’ way, side by side, but also sort-able by the topic areas each person touches on.  It’s a beginning of the vision for the website and...

Buddhist Lives

By Vidyasakhi on Thu, 15 Dec, 2016 - 10:49

Here’s a piece I wrote for the London Buddhist Centre magazine - enjoy!

At the heart of this Buddhist movement is an Order: men and women putting the Buddha’s teaching at the centre of their lives. What does that look like in 2017? Interviews by Vidyasakhi

Vajrabandhu

I grew up in Kent – Medway Towns, Gillingham to be precise. Predominantly a working class place, a lot of heavy industry traditionally, though Thatcher and her lot put paid to that. That’s why I joined the army: I needed...
