Dharmabyte: Instant Response: Taking Responsibility

By Sadayasihi on Thu, 9 Jul, 2020 - 14:00

The Buddha and Ananda once tended a sick monk, neglected by his companions because of his ‘uselessness’. Sangharakshita shows that people cannot be treated as ‘things’ in the spiritual community.

From the talk entitled A Case of Dysentry given in 1982 as part of the series Incidents from the Pali Canon.

Dharmabyte: Nothing More to Learn?

By Sadayasihi on Mon, 29 Jun, 2020 - 14:00

In describing the qualities of patience, Sangharakshita calls on a story from the Saddharma-Pundarika (The Lotus Sutra) to illustrate the necessity of spiritual receptivity.

From the talk Masculinity and Femininity in the Spiritual Life as part of the series Aspects of the Bodhisattva Ideal, 1969. The full talk explores the third and fourth Perfections: kshanti (forbearance, tolerance or spiritual receptivity) and virya (energy in pursuit of the good).

Urgyen House website

By Sadayasihi on Fri, 26 Jun, 2020 - 11:57

After Sangharakshita’s death, the Uddiyana Trustees (the charity which is dedicated to preserving his legacy) renamed the annexe where Sangharakshita spent his final years, Urgyen House.

Urgyen House was Sangharakshita’s home for the last five-and-a-half years of his life. This building and the Sangharakshita Library (which is located in a different building at Adhisthana) provided not only living quarters for Sangharakshita but a place for his entire collection of books, letters, papers, thangkas and artefacts.

The Uddiyana Trust has now embarked on a project to...

Transference of Merit and Self Surrender- Turning Arrows into Flowers: Day 7

By kusaladevi on Thu, 21 May, 2020 - 15:40

Coming to the end of the ‘Transforming Arrows into Flowers’ Home retreat, it is always useful to dwell on any benefits you have received from the week. Perhaps you would like to make a few changes to your life – such as less time checking your emails; or ‘doing nothing’ for ten minutes each day. You may wish to write these down and keep them by your bed or on your fridge as a reminder. Telling other people can also...

Prajnahridaya, living at Padmaloka retreat centre in Norfolk, UK, shares his reflections around this slogan, reflecting on the essence of the Mind Training teachings - a release from Ego Clinging.

⁣⁣⁣He reflects on the dangers of trying to get rid of something and focuses instead on the freedom, inspiration and beauty that can arise when we let go of clinging.
