Dear Order Members and Friends,

I have just returned home from two Ordination Retreats. The first one was the long Ordination Retreat in Akashavana, Spain, where 19 fine women were ordained. The second one was much shorter in our Retreat Centre here in Vimaladhatu, Germany. It was for Utpaladaya who cannot physically manage the terrain at Akashavana and works as a teacher with limited holiday time. Both retreats were a source of joy and inspiration.

Ordination in Germany

I am delighted to announce that the former Andreas Kernebeck was publicly ordained on Sunday 22nd August at the Essen Buddhist Centre.

He becomes Muditamani, which means ‘Jewel of Sympathetic Joy’. The emphasis is on the third syllable.

His private preceptor was Nirmala and I was his public preceptor.

In the middle of a nature park surrounded by meadows and lakes, only 60 kilometres north of Berlin, lies the so-called “Rote Burg“ (Red Castle): two old Ziegler buildings with about 850 square metres of floor space and surrounded by 37,000 square metres of meadows and oak forest.

At the beginning of March this year I handed on my responsibilities as chair of Buddhistisches Tor Berlin, our Triratna centre in the capital of Germany, to the very capable and delightful Aryabandhu. In the latest NewsByte video report from Clear Vision, we hear about Triratna’s first ever Mainland European Young Buddhist Convention, held in June at Triratna’s Berlin Centre, Buddhistisches Tor.
