Compassionate Action: Venezuela Sangha

By dhsaraha on Fri, 14 Aug, 2020 - 10:21

The first time we visited the Covid ward five people lay naked on beds. Two weeks later the long ward was full of people on closely packed beds. The next morning we got a desperate call from the Director of the hospital asking for help.

We - myself and members of the Triratna sangha in Merida - were at the hospital for three reasons: to help with the weekly donation of liquid soap, to research protective clothing which we are...

Chairs' Letter – July 2020

By ratnadharini on Fri, 31 Jul, 2020 - 23:22

Dear Order members

At the end of June I moved back to Adhisthana and though I like the simplicity of my cell-like bedroom cum office, people on the other end of Zoom calls have been commenting on the bare walls as, until recently, the only painting was above my desk and behind the computer screen.

Covid-19 and the topic of race and racism, have continued to be major concerns, both within and without our sangha. Both wake up calls...

Rooted in this very earth

By Dhivan Thomas Jones on Wed, 6 May, 2020 - 11:39

An unintended consequence of the viral pandemic is that, rather than walking to my office at the university, I walk for exercise each day in the local woods. And I am not alone: lots of us seem to be taking the unexpected opportunity to find pleasure in springtime woodland. As I’ve been walking in the woods, I’ve been thinking more about Buddhist environmental ethics (see also Mettā for Plants). It’s often thought that Buddhism is eco-friendly because of its...

Aryaloka Corona Relief Emergency Appeal

By aryaketu on Sat, 11 Apr, 2020 - 17:12

The Covid19 pandemic affects all of us and highlights our global interconnectedness. We are all suffering but those suffering most are those with the fewest resources – the poorest and most vulnerable in our societies. Nowhere more so than in India where the rapid nation-wide lockdown on 22 March has resulted in untold misery and hardship for many millions of daily labourers unable now to leave their homes to work and feed their families. Even worse hit are the many...

Triratna Responds to the Coronavirus

By Sadayasihi on Fri, 27 Mar, 2020 - 09:57

As the Covid-19 pandemic continues to spread across the world, how have Triratna Buddhist Centres and team-based right livelihood businesses been responding?

By now most Triratna Buddhist Centres and groups have closed their doors - but many have opened up on the digital universe and invited their sanghas to join them online. Various Triratna Centres across the world are now offering courses classes, pujas, urban retreats and other events online. Now is a great time to try out joining in some of the...

Buddhists in Europe and COVID-19

By Munisha on Thu, 26 Mar, 2020 - 12:50

Across Europe (and much of the rest of the world) Buddhists of all traditions are deeply affected by the arrival of the new Coronavirus, COVID-19, just like everyone else.

Triratna is a member of the European Buddhist Unionwhose president wrote to all members today.

In the UK and much of the rest of Europe Buddhist temples, centres and retreat centres area closed. Many countries are in ‘lockdown’, people required by law to stay at home most of the time.

Here in Sweden where I...
