Here is the talk I gave from last years International Gathering.
On the theme of The Alchemy of the Dharma, I was asked to talk about the practice of Sangha and how we can transform ourselves in order to transform our communities. I talk about my work on Karuna appeals.
“As a fundraiser at the cutting edge of the practice of connection – trying to forge a sense of mutually vital relationship with strangers (who are not necessarily pleased to find you at their door!)...
“May I deliver all beings from difficulties; may I eradicate all passions; may I master all dharmas; may I lead all beings to Buddhahood.” This is the Bodhisattva’s resolve upon the awakening of the Bodhi Heart.
A few years ago Ksantivadin and I digitalised all of Bhante’s old Mitrata booklets on The Bodhisattva Ideal lecture series.
There are eight lectures in the original series, and eight pairs of Mitratas in the series. The first of each pair contains a lightly edited version of the talk and often some seminar extracts, and then the second of each pair is just seminar extracts.
(By seminars extracts, I mean extracts taken from study seminars lead by Bhante on those particular Bodhisattva Ideal lectures.)
This is the first of four talks exploring Vasubandhu’s Four Factors. In his treatise Generating Bodhi Resolve, Vasubandhu describes them as able to generate the resolve to cultivate and accumulate the bases for the Arising of the Bodhicitta.
