We celebrated the Buddha’s Enlightenment this year with the Aryaloka Sangha on their Tuesday Night Friends’ Gathering. To celebrate, we engaged in a practice of Arts and Reflection: Entering the Mountain by meeting in silence while gazing upon the beautiful woodblock prints of Matt Brown, currently on display at Aryaloka Buddhist Center.

We created a simple program beginning with meditation and short reading about the Buddha’s Enlightenment. Our tea was taken in silence as we moved into the yoga room to begin taking in the pieces of art. Once people were settled, poems drawn from various sources were read slowly aloud to evoke deeper reflections on the images.

Many people were impressed, transported and inspired by this superb poetry and reflection on art. Many said that this was the deepest opportunity to interact with an exhibition ever, and that we should do it more often.
