Intro Course: Get To Know Your Mind with Buddhism & Meditation

Posted by bhpruitt on Thu, 16 Nov, 2017 - 20:18

Our next four-week introductory course will focus on meditation within a Buddhist framework. Dh. Suddhayu will teach two traditional meditations, mindfulness of breathing and cultivation of loving kindness, placing them in the context of the Buddha’s teaching. Together these practices and teachings hold the key to shifting our minds toward greater capacity to dwell in the present and a larger field of kindness towards ourselves and others.

New Sunday Series: Where Are We Going and How Can We Get There?

Posted by bhpruitt on Fri, 10 Nov, 2017 - 14:15

In our upcoming Sunday gatherings, November 12 - December 17, following a period of meditation, we will explore the Buddha’s Noble Eightfold Path as a take on how to be a better human being in the world. Another name for this teaching, offered by Sangharakshita, is “Vision and Transformation.” This way of looking at it invites us to connect with the seed of inspiration or insight that has drawn us to the spiritual path. In that light, we take up...

Religion Without God

Posted by Viriyalila on Sun, 29 Oct, 2017 - 16:11

Here are the talks referenced in today’s session, Religion Without God
a series of talks by Candradasa.

A four-part series looking at how you can have a full spiritual life as a 21st Century person without recourse to blind faith or setting yourself against the rational world we find ourselves in. The Buddha faced some of the same dilemmas as us in India in 500 BCE, and we face some new challenges with 2500 years of changed culture and experience in...

History of South Meeting House

Posted by Viriyalila on Sun, 29 Oct, 2017 - 15:40

Someone asked today about the history of the South Meeting House where we are holding our Sangha meetings on Sundays. Here is a very good write up available on Seacoast NH Online:

“The South Meeting House is significant as a well-documented example of the procedures involved in an ordinary municipal building project of the mid-nineteenth century. Whether or not by intent, a large part of the local building community was involved in its construction, producing a building which was simple, yet...

What role does money play in our sense of identity, our self-worth and our feelings of personal security? This week we’ll be looking at what the Buddha’s pragmatic, ethical perspective on human happiness has to offer us in a world where money - or the pursuit of it - matters perhaps more than ever. Join us in exploring questions spiritual and economic with our guest speaker Amalavajra, visiting from the UK.

A former broker in London with J.P. Morgan, Amalavajra’s own journey...
