In this 40th anniversary celebration, hear Maitrisiddhi evoke what Taraloka really is - beyond mere converted barns. Then hear from all five past and present Chairs of Taraloka, who, between them, have witnessed the whole history of this women's Buddhist retreat centre.
Each Chair is rejoiced in, then each one - Sanghadevi, Dayanandi, Saddhanandi, Samantabhadri and Maitridevi - speaks about what happened for Taraloka during her guardianship.
This was all part of an Order Tara's Realm celebration puja on the 40th Anniversary Tara Sadhana meditation retreat led by Vijayamala.
Vajragupta offers a Buddhist reflection on the social and political times we are living through. The talk takes the myth of the asuras (the Titan realm on the Wheel of Life) as a way of seeing and understanding the kind of world we are creating. In that myth, the Buddha appears in the realm of the asuras holding a sword. What does that symbolise? Vajragupta suggests it can be seen as a sword of fearlessness, a sword...
I have received a letter of resignation from Sanghasevaka/Andreas Fischer from Germany.
Sanghasevaka was ordained on 13th June 2011 in Guhyaloka in Spain and I was his public preceptor.
After checking with his private preceptor, Bodhimitra, I have written back to him formally accepting his resignation and wishing him happiness and success on his chosen path.
Sanghasevaka wishes to keep his Buddhist name. His letter of resignation is copied below.
With metta,
Satyaraja
(Please note: All comments and messages of well-wishing received below will be sent to Sanghasevaka after three weeks.)
In this talk Vadanya explores how paying attention to reality - rather than mental or media noise - can bring our life alive and give us a vivid experience of beauty. But is “being here now” enough to bring real happiness? Or do we need a deeper idea of the meaning of awareness? Excerpted from the talk The Aware Mind Is the Happy Mind given at Sheffield Buddhist Centre, 2025. ...
Peace, happiness, contentment we all want it, but where and how to find it. The Buddhist tradition would say that it is in how we relate to our experience that either satisfaction or grasping can be found. Does this stand up, how do we do it, what difference does it make in the world. Dharmashalin talks here about the essential problem of life. Excerpted from the talk Finding Peace In a Frantic World given...

Now sitting in my kitchen in Nottingham looking at the grey gloom outside the memory of Akashavana and the bright blue sky is still very strong for me. I got back a week ago from an 8 day work retreat. I was the only ‘punter’ and spent these days as an additional member of the community alongside Padmasakhi, Bodhipaksini and Vidyachandra.
The main focus of the retreat was to give energy and...
