Update on Vajramayi's Health

From Order Connection on Wed, 10 Jan, 2018 - 17:25

Dear brothers and sisters in the Order,

A few weeks ago Dharmacharini Vajramayi who lives in Utrecht (The Netherlands) was diagnosed with cancer in the bowel. Unfortunately at the time of the diagnosis the cancer had already spread into the liver, the lungs and the lymph system. It was made clear to her that only palliative treatment was an option. She was given a life expectancy of two to six months.

Today she has decided not to...

Paticca-samuppada an old bone for an old dog - Guhyavajra

From Shabda Articles on Wed, 10 Jan, 2018 - 14:15

Open to all.

I’m entering into solitary retreat for a while so won’t be on the net.

In preparation for Wimbledon I have been watching the Paticca-samuppada debate. Unfortunately myself not being a scholar I am a month behind the action slowly digesting the game.

I have to confess I don’t quite understand some of what is being extrapolated from quite a straightforward business. I fail to see how paticca-samuppada in terms of the Buddha’s experience as described by Satyadana, which I mostly concur with, contradicts...

Living with Loving Kindness

From Croydon Buddhist Centre on Sun, 7 Jan, 2018 - 00:00
In this talk Vijayasri introduces us to metta, the basic teaching of the Buddha, by exploring the first chapter of Living with Loving Kindness by Sangharakshita. Vijayasri discusses the idea of the Buddha as a problem solver looking at suffering and the release from suffering. We consider the Karaniya metta sutta, look at the work of Buddhaghosa, and investigate the ideas of metta as a strongly positive emotion, a rational emotion and as wisdom. The session finishes with some questions for reflection. This talk was given at Croydon Buddhist Centre as part of our regular Saturday morning Sangha class in the autumn of 2017.
