Message from Bodhilila

From West London Buddhist Centre on Thu, 22 Aug, 2024 - 15:53

Dear Sangha Friends

It is over 3 months since I shared news of my cancer diagnosis, just before I went to hospital for major abdominal surgery. I had been told that the extent of the surgery could not be determined until they began operating and in fact it proved to be more extensive than planned, lasting five and a half hours and including a bowel resection, removal of my appendix, omentum and spleen and a lot more. I was fortunate to have...

Celebrating Sangharakshita’s Legacy: Reflections on His ‘Going Forth’

From Windhorse Publications on Wed, 14 Aug, 2024 - 10:00

This month we celebrate Sangharakshita’s 99th birthday. In doing so we reflect on the enormous impact of his life and teaching, and what his ‘Going Forth’ has meant in all our lives within the Triratna movement.

In 1997, on the 50th anniversary of his ‘Going Forth’, Sangharakshita offered his own reflections on that significant moment and the Buddha’s Noble Quest during an address at the Western Buddhist Order (now Triratna) convention.

‘Going Forth’ refers to renouncing worldly life to pursue a spiritual...

Come and join Ratnadeva, Moksacara, Suryamani and Sanghasiha and team in Dartmoor for our summer open retreat.

How can we know ourselves in everything? How do animism and Buddhism cross-pollinate each other? We will explore these questions in the context of the global environmental crisis and the core Buddhist teachings of interconnection and compassion.

Coming together as a human community, we will be held and supported by the bountiful natural community of Frogmill - held by the gleaming eye of a raven and the magic of the...

Two Pūjās in Sanskrit

From Sanskrit on Thu, 8 Aug, 2024 - 09:04

Here is what Śraddhāpa wrote:

“Earlier this month (July 2024) I taught the first ever Sanskrit Summer School at Adhiṣṭhāna, something which we’re planning to make an annual event. During the summer school, we used Sanskrit in the shrine room, reciting the Sevenfold Puja in Śāntideva’s original Sanskrit.”

Here is:

  • the Saptavidhā pūjā, which contains the Sanskrit text of the puja by Śāntideva, including Śraddhāpa’s translation of the refuges and precepts into Sanskrit.
  • and the Trividhā pūjā, which is Śraddhāpa’s translation of the Threefold Puja into Sanskrit.

Collected Rituals by Kamalashila

From Community Highlights on Tue, 6 Aug, 2024 - 18:02

Launching a book I haven’t really written.  It is a compilation of mostly pujas with some other Buddhist rituals that I have composed or put together from other sources over the years since the early days of Vajraloka.  I think many of you will appreciate them and may wish to do them, too.  The reason that I say I haven’t written it is that Lokabandhu, who has a lot to do with ‘Triratna InHouse...

Puja Texts in Chinese

From Chinese on Sun, 4 Aug, 2024 - 09:30

There are two collections of Puja Texts here, one ‘Traditional’, in traditional Chinese characters, and the other ‘Simplified’, in simplified Chinese characters.

三寶誦本-繁體字 – “Puja Texts in Chinese (Traditional)”

三宝诵本-简体字 – “Puja Texts in Chinese (Simplified)”

These two documents each contain the following texts:

  • The Refuges and Precepts
  • The Threefold Puja
  • The Sevenfold Puja
  • The Dedication Ceremony

These texts have been completely revised by Zoe Lim, Di Fan, Adbhutaja and Śraddhāpa. We have also translated the Sevenfold Puja directly from the original Sanskrit.

Chair's Letter – July

From College of Public Preceptors on Thu, 1 Aug, 2024 - 11:03

Dear Order Members and Friends,

I have just returned home from two Ordination Retreats. The first one was the long Ordination Retreat in Akashavana, Spain, where 19 fine women were ordained. The second one was much shorter in our Retreat Centre here in Vimaladhatu, Germany. It was for Utpaladaya who cannot physically manage the terrain at Akashavana and works as a teacher with limited holiday time. Both retreats were a source of joy and inspiration.
