Sadhana Conversations

From Threads on Mon, 28 Jun, 2021 - 11:42

A couple of weeks ago I had the real pleasure of interviewing six of our number about their relationship with Sadhana. I found it very enjoyable to talk one-to-one with another order member about their practice of Sadhana, the nature of their connection to their Yidam and also how it has changed throughout their life. Each conversation is different in tone, personality and content. Each conversation inspired my own practice of Sadhana in distinct ways… and I hope they might do the same for you.

I deliberately...

Kiss the Earth: Buddhafield 2021- the Talks!

From Free Buddhist Audio on Thu, 15 Jul, 2021 - 20:56

When we connect with the earth, we are also connecting with ourselves and with other beings, recognizing we are part of a greater whole. We can begin to let go of the barriers that separate us from one another

We have learnt this past few years how rapidly things can change, and seen the illusion that humanity is in total control swept away. A more humble, respectful approach is need to rebalance our world, both internally and externally.

To kiss the earth is to...

From West London Buddhist Centre on Thu, 15 Jul, 2021 - 13:40

Saturday 4 & Sunday 5 September 2021

We welcome you to September’s Wolf at the Door theme:  A Visitor to the Wolf Hotel: An Exploration of the Wildness of the Senses with Varasahaya and Padmacandra who ask,

“What if instead of the Wolf visiting us, we find ourselves at the door of the Wolf Hotel? At each of the six windows blows a different kind of wind. What if we found ourselves looking out of one of these windows, the wild wolf senses, to see the...

Review: I Hear Her Words: An Introduction to Women in Buddhism by Alice Collett

Review: I Hear Her Words: An Introduction to Women in Buddhism by Alice Collett

From Buddhist Centre Features on Fri, 9 Jul, 2021 - 17:27

The last two decades have seen a growth in Western scholarship about women in Buddhism. The Therīgāthā, a selection of 73 poems by enlightened Buddhist nuns over a 300-year period from the sixth century BCE, has had multiple recent translations and commentaries. Scholars including Rita Gross and Anne C. Klein have conducted feminist re-evaluations of Buddhism, while others have explored the experiences of women practising in specific cultures (for example, Martine Batchelor on her experience as a Jogye Zen...

Munisha seeks occasional carer for her father in North London

From Jobs, Volunteering & Communities on Sun, 4 Jul, 2021 - 15:25

My father William is a huge character, especially now he has Alzheimer’s. He lives by Hampstead tube station in north London and he has some fantastic carers, but we’d love to have one or two extra people we can call on for the odd shift now and then.

If you’d like some paid work every now and then, do get in touch and I’ll arrange for you to meet him and one or two of his carers.

Chairs' Letter – June 2021

From College of Public Preceptors on Wed, 30 Jun, 2021 - 23:07

Dear Order Members and friends,

Yesterday the public ordinations of another eight women took place at Adhisthana, while the church bells rang out across the fields from Coddington steeple. Sadly I was not able to be in the shrine room at the time, as I was in a zoom meeting, but it’s been delightful seeing the new Dharmacharini’s emerge into the beautiful Adhisthana context.

In fact meetings of various kinds seem to have been...

The work of the ECA Safeguarding team since 2016

From Order Messenger on Tue, 29 Jun, 2021 - 16:33

We, Munisha and Amaladipa, are the Safeguarding team who work for Triratna’s European Chairs’ Assembly (ECA). (Read more about us below.)

We would like to give you some information about the kinds of concerns we’ve addressed in relation to Order members since 2016. We hope this information will demonstrate why formal Safeguarding measures are necessary in Triratna; and that it reflects our wish to be more transparent where possible.

What is now the ECA Safeguarding team began life in 2016 and since...

Unfolding Sadhana

From Adhisthana on Mon, 28 Jun, 2021 - 23:42

Over the last few weeks, Adhisthana has been ringing with conversations on Sadhana.

Ksantikara has been recording a series of conversations with six fellow order members, talking to each of them about their Yiddam and Sadhana practice. Every time he returned to the office after having had one of these conversations, he would be almost bouncing, his eyes sparkling.

He kept saying how good these conversations were, how much he enjoyed them, and that he was really looking forward to sharing the recordings with the order.

I interviewed Lokeshvara the...
