Letter from the College of Public Preceptors- November

From College of Public Preceptors on Sat, 1 Nov, 2025 - 00:15

Dear Order members and friends,

In 1976 I was a twenty-one year old student studying philosophy and sociology, engaged in left-wing campus politics and attending ‘encounter groups’ for personal growth. I was puzzled and troubled because changing the world and personal growth seemed to be in separate camps. A fortunate introduction led me to the Norwich Buddhist Centre soon after its opening, and after my first attempt at meditation and friendly conversation over tea, ‘The Meaning of Spiritual Community’...

Bodhilila's Tribute fundraiser

From Triratna News on Wed, 29 Oct, 2025 - 16:27

The People of Color (POC) space, Co-guided by Bodhilila, holds deep significance for many people practising within Triratna. Over the past few years, Bodhilila led numerous POC retreats and events, inspiring us with her boundless kindness, open heart, and skillfully led meditations. To honor her dedication and ensure her work continues to flourish, a fund has been established. We hope this fund will support the racial diversity project and many others on our path to freedom for years to come.

We will announce the funds raised so far at...

Working In the Realms - 3 Short Talks

From Sheffield Buddhist Centre on Wed, 29 Oct, 2025 - 00:00
Last week we looked into the three realms of the animals, the gods and the humans. Join us this week for more short talks by members of the Sangha of their personal experience of these realms and how they keep one foot in the human realm! We'll hear how temporarily visiting other realms can bring growth and transformation, and how with practice comes the freedom of spending more and more time in the human realm. During this theme we'll be looking at The Wheel of Life, a living symbol that encompasses the entirety of existence. We'll learn how to escape from the prison and sufferings of Samsara, towards ever increasing positive and expansive states of being, towards the ultimate goal of Awakening. We'll be taking a contemporary look at this ancient symbol, visiting it's realms and their beings from the depths of the hell realm to the heights of the heavenly abodes, and asking what do these realms look like in our modern society and world? Expect support for home practice, practical ideas of how to bring these traditional teachings into your everyday life, and reflections on how to make your Great Escape!

The Sutta Nipata | Dharmachari Seminar Retreat

From Adhisthana on Tue, 28 Oct, 2025 - 10:00

The Sutta Nipāta is an early Buddhist text that emphasises a strong, positive striving towards spiritual freedom. It appeals directly to our individual effort and a path of self-discovery, with an uncompromising flavour of renunciation. We’ll unpack some of this material using Sangharakshita’s seminar material, alongside personal experience, reflection and meditation.

Building a Stupa at Suryavana

From Suryavana Retreat Centre on Mon, 27 Oct, 2025 - 15:53

Thanks to an old friend, Juan Castell, of the Buddhist Centre in Valencia we are adding the mythical presence of the Stupa. Symbol for Awakening, symbol for the Buddha and built for the love of the Dharma.

It will occupy a spot that for the almost ten years of the project we had a geodesic dome set up where we did many rituals and Meditations and meeting over the years.

Circled to the north by cypress trees and to the south the wonder duo...

Celebrating Bodhilila

From Triratna News on Fri, 12 Dec, 2025 - 17:26

Celebration Memorial for Bodhilila

In late October, many friends of Bodhilila gathered – in London and around the world online – to rejoice, remember and appreciate our friend, teacher and former chair of the West London Buddhist Centre, who died on 30th September 2025.

This is a beautiful, moving film of Bodhilila’s memorial service, also featuring a wonderful set of mages from here life which includes her own performance on viola of Kol Nidrei by Max Bruch.
